difference between ti and zx?
difference between ti and zx?
what are the differences other then the look? did they change anything when they went from zx to ti? or are they basically the same amps with different cosmetics?
Re: difference between ti and zx?
I got both and the only difference i see are other newer caps and different printing on the board and outside, the plexi windows are darker on the titanium amps that i have seen.

Re: difference between ti and zx?
The main diff between the actual ZX and zxti/ti is the crossovers. Theres no diff between the zxti and ti basically

wasn't the zx the last of the gold boards and when they went to the ti/offshore they went to copper?
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

Ur right scott! The zxti is when the boards changed to the dark gray/blk.

I think the later TI amps will take higher input voltage 5 or 6 volts.

The signal will "clip" which sounds like raspy distortion. May damage your speakers, but seldom damages the amplifier.Alfaholic wrote:knightrider358 wrote:The Zxv2 and up will accept up to 6vrms

If you give an amp way too much input voltage it will likely burn out some components in the preamp section of the amplifier.

Interesting, im going to put a tba in my car can i measure the volt on the rca so i can see its not to high im using a zx400ti and a zx600ti?.Eric D wrote:The signal will "clip" which sounds like raspy distortion. Re: difference between ti and zx?
Well a lot of people have told me u can burn amps up, i can see that w some models of if u gave these a 13vrms.
But imho, i have always ran 8-10vrms to all my zx's and ti's for the past 5yrs and never had an issue. I have solely done this block noise as the signal travels from front to rear and more so to drive the amps to the most efficient they can. Hence ive ran a ti600.2 bridged at a 2ohm load for 3 yrs w a 10vrms signal and she got fairly warm not hot and never had issues till a few months ago when one channel started making noises.
But again thats my opinion

I tried to find info in the zx400/600ti user manual about how many volt the rca can handle, how much is the maximum voltage on the rca input on the old zx/ti amplifiers?

Re: difference between ti and zx?
If im correct it should be the same as at least the ZXv2, so 6vrms. The ti line is 6vrms also. I dont think PG would have changed this between the Zx and the Ti just for the ZxTi's

Re: difference between ti and zx?
I suppose a lot of people will disagree with me about this, but you really don't need more than 4V of input signal on most any amplifier out there.
This is a number most modern brands shoot for, and pretty much all vintage amps can take it as well.
Going up to 8V or 10V will improve your signal to noise, but my argument would be that it is already great enough with 4V that you will likely not hear a difference using more.
It seems the biggest reason people use line drivers is to drive several amplifiers off the same line, and in this case it would indeed be useful. You can drive MANY amplifiers off of a PLD for example.
If you have a rear mounted EQ with level matching, or just run a single 4-channel amplifier for example, "only" 4V is likely never going to be the "weak link" in your whole stereo setup.

Im using one rca line from my headunit to the tba and on the other end of the tba recevier it goes in to an Audio control DQX so i will measure the volt coming out of the rca output on the DQX.
I dont think you can hear the difference in sound on the zx/ti & the ti amplifiers i see there are different transistors & resistors but only the brand used, the value seems to be the same.
Thanks for your help with my question on the rca volt guys and sorry if i stole your tread Chiapet

Yes i know but it got LD but i dont know what happens if i have the tba turned on max does it affect the volt thats coming out of the dqx?, i do not think i can adjust the LD on the dqx and i dont know how many volts it gives out to the amplifiers either.
Im using the tba to get the noize level from my alt away im also using a 3pcs f xsc5 caps so i hope noize want be an issue,

Funny u ask that have i used a dqx, u actually have my old one [emoji6], the reason i know this is cause u got urs from mike and he got it from me.Alfaholic wrote:knightrider358 wrote:Remember ur dqx has a built in LD too

Anyways, i ran a tba set and that same dqx in my first pg build. Till i learned u can prematurely cause clipping in ur tba set going the the dqx. The dqx has a incoming indicator to the far left that shows the signal level incoming. And if i remember the dqx does 9vrms out.

Re: difference between ti and zx?
Oh btw u adjust ur dqx ld with the 3 knobs above each out to adjust the signal out on the top of unit.
Also if you have a balanced signal going to the dqx it can accept balanced but u have to remove the cover of the unit and switch it to either balanced or unbalanced. I had it set to unbalanced. Check audio controls website. You can download the users manual for the unit. They are sweet!!!
