Has anyone experience with repairing this amp ? Amp plays but not loud enough, the "diagnostic" led is lit [red].
This oldskool beast was bought by a friend of mine and I'd like to help him but there's not much professional help available over here in The Netherlands.
Manual says; when protection led lits, "speaker wires connected to ground or DC on speaker outputs".
Can YOU help me with some info?
Thanks,
Nico

Re: Hifonics Colossus VIII problem
You may have a channel shorted/bad. If one channel has high DC offset it will go into protect.
Re: Hifonics Colossus VIII problem
I think I did one a few years ago. It's just an amp, a big one but nothing special
I check my repair notes.

FWIW.....Perry Babin over on the DIYAudio message board helped me with an old series VII Hifonics Pluto. He seems to really know those old ZED Audio designs. You may want to ask over there in the "Car Audio" section as well.

I would just contact Steve Mantz (Zed Audio). He built and designed it so should be able to give you an idea.

Re: Hifonics Colossus VIII problem
THANKS for the good advice guys.
"Bertje" over here in The Netherlands offered to have a look at it, he's done many car-amp repairs already and knows how these things work.
He's also got a very good website on which he explains all the basics of caraudio [in Dutch].
Will let you know how it turned out!
Thanks
Nico
