Custom Bass Cube Remote
Custom Bass Cube Remote
A while back someone here on the Phorum said that they had made a custom bass cube remote that the light brightened and dimmed depending on the boost level. Does anyone know who that might have been? My cube remote is going out, and I am exploring the possibility of having one made that better integrates to the dash.
Thanks in advance

Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.

Re: Custom Bass Cube Remote
How is your remote going out exactly? Potentiometer worn out/scratchy? Perhaps broken solder joint on one of the pots?
Re: Custom Bass Cube Remote
Seems like there is a short in the dial where it turns it on/off. Road bumps make it cut on/off sometimes, and tapping the dial can do it too. It's probably a simple soldering fix.
Ever since I read where someone made one that you could tell what level the boost was from the light I have wanted one though, but that has been a few years since I read it.

Re: Custom Bass Cube Remote
Try using contact cleaner such as deoxit, spray it on the push/pull potentiometer (both the rear end and the front as the rear is the switch mechanism and the front is the potentiometer). Push/pull as well as rotating clockwise/counterclockwise about 20x once sprayed and see if that does the trick.
I made a few remotes but they are exact replicas (same push/pull switch and pots) so it doesn't have any LED dimmer. I can let you get one for 50.00 shipped if you can't get yours working.

Kirghriz I think you are referring to jacampb2 bass cube remotes I have one from him that I got a couple years back but haven't installed it yet I think that is how his works.

That picture is not one of mine. The final revision of mine were pretty much identical to the stock PG remote, it even fit the stock bracket. I was not active here for about 4-5 years, but I think I recall reading about someone who was trying to duplicate my remotes and used one of my first revision board layouts that was missing one jumper in the board layout I posted. If I recall correctly they said that it caused the LED to vary in brightness based on the boost knob setting, but I am also almost certain that it was an error.
It would be easy enough to design one that works as you request, however, the push/pull switched pots that these used are getting hard to come by. No US retailers carry them anymore, and the manufacturer wants a run of 2000 to make them. As the most expensive part of the remote, I doubt that any of us could recoup our investment. To do what you want, and to not screw up the original remote output, we would need to source a dual gang push/pull switched pot. They do exist, but it will be even harder to source.
That said, I have purchased a few samples of the normal single gang push/pull pot we need from some Chinese wholesalers. If I can find one with decent quality it sounds like they will work on quantity with me. I have 5-10 of the US sourced pots as well as blank boards and the rest of the errata from back when I was doing a lot of this. I may start working on it again someday, but right now I have my plate full with repairs and a side project I took on for EricD.

Re: Custom Bass Cube Remote
Here's the batch I made.

Re: Custom Bass Cube Remote
Sorry Jason I thought it was you. I need to go through my pm's. Who ever it was is from New Mexico.
Re: Custom Bass Cube Remote
No need for apologies! We are all good. I think I did three different revisions total and probably sold somewhere around 50 of them. The first couple had different pot styles and I think my very first run had a separate on off switch, but I never built any on perf-board, so I can't say where it's from. I think a few different people made them again over the last few years.
Good Luck,
Jason

Pretty sure that is the one I am thinking of if the lights in the center got brighter as the boost level was increased.RayBuck wrote:Pics
