I added a LD in my install this evening. I followed the manual of tuning the LD and turned down the amp gains to minimum. Is it normal to turn the gain on the LD a hair--no exageration-- on my fronts and be set? The LD gain to my sub amp was turned up about 3/4, but turning the fronts up just a hair was ridiculously loud.
I have 0 gain on either amp now.
Line Driver
Probably much louder due to the fact that most of PG's line drivers provide 8volt output rather than some decks that only put out 2volt on a cheap deck to as much as 4.5 on most standard and above decks. Some decks put out more...but not alot more.
And believe me that couple extra volts adds alot of power.

My HU has 5 volt pre-out. I was just shocked that I didn't need to turn the gain on the LD up much if any. However on the sub amp I turned it way up which is how I had the gain on the amp anyway.
Another thing I've noticed is that even with the sub out level turned all the way down it now bleeds through to the sub, whereas before it did not.
Fowler= "effiance" What???

I think he me meant "efficient". He missed that day in English class.
The fronts will use much less power to produce comparable sound than a sub. A sub needs horsepower to make it work.
I use an AC Four1.i LD/EQ and my mid/tweet amps are at about 40% gain. My sub amp is at about 75% gain. However, I do have a few processors in between (EPiCentre, ESP2 and a 406A). Inputs and outputs on these devices are generally in the 50% range.
