hmm which direction now

Post by bdubs767 »

Okay I simply am not happy with the 50hz to 63hz response in my car currently.

Upon some more tunning listening ect I just feel crossing the Nextels at 50hz with a 12db is to much for it and anything above 50hz for the IDWs is a little boomy. Don't say 18db slopes because at least to my ears it just doesn't sound right So I have two options right now replace the subwoofers or replace the head unit/proc.

The subs I would replace the IDWs 15s for would be dyn mw182s (10" woofer) IB in the front doors. My only concern is that they will not be able to handle 30hz on down like the IDWs can.

The proc Im looking at a pionner p9 combo which offers much more eq bands (graphic though), and far better xover slopes to work with for my current speaker selection.

what would you guys do?

The problem is obviously that you drive an Intrepid. Save your money for a new car instead of spending so much on stereo equipment to compensate

lol probably the truth minus the compensate... so close to perfection but no cigar yet. I'm driving this bitch into the ground and damn thing I know wont die for about 2 yrs, and I wont be buying a nice car for a while after that. I dont really care what I drive as long as it doesnt have major problems and sounds good

fyi my system currently is pretty cheap only spent about $2000 on it which isn't bad at all you can spend half of that on a shitty sub/amp install at BB.

if your potential subs won't reproduce the entire bottom octave to your liking the logical approach is to let the sub focus on going low-end extension while adding a dedicated midbass for the rest. but I didn't have to tell you that.

i think it is a "ignorance is bliss situation. you will always have something not quite right with your install and you will NEVER be 100% satisfied.

Time for a 3-way setup up front!! Seriously, I have the same gap with my Seas CA18RNX's. I just can't see to blend them in well at that exact range you are having problems with. I don't think more processing is going to help you out. Just my .02 cents.

emmm
ive done the three way tho...with some of the best drivers you can have liek the scan 12m, scan 6000, peerless HDS, Scan 6600

Its almost impossible to get the same focus on the front stage as you can get from a two way.

Maybe it time to try about he only thing I haven't tried some horns and 8" drivers in the kicks :)

Or so Horns with 15" Pro audio drivers up front like errin's all time favorite install

Well, that's good to know. Every now and then I get the bright idea to try a 3-way, but my girlfriend would kill me!!

honestly IMO not worth it...despite the gap I have in that freq range the sound stage and image perfection I have with the mids and tweets in the kicks is hands down worth it. I honestly think with 24db slopes I can over come this problem or 10" drivers up front
