Question about TI elite

Post by PGsta14me »

Hey everyone!

I have a couple questions for those of you who have used TI elite components.

I've done some "critical listening" to my 6.5 set that I have yet to install in my car. The custom pods that I attempted to fabricate myself are finally done (2 years later  )!! First of all dubs, you were right. . .they really come to life in sealed enclosures!!

I used my home stereo receiver to power the crossover. My question is this. . . I've noticed that the most incredible performance with these speakers seem to occur near the frequency of voice. . . human vocals frequency fluctuates but usually around 1kHz. Is that because the crossover point for Elite is 1KHz?

Also, I know this has been brought up before, but what is the deal with the jumpers?? I pulled them out and there doesn't seem to be any detectable difference to me.

Also, I'm using what I think are Zeropoint tweeters. The tweeters don't seem to keep up very well with the mids. Will Elite tweeters make that much of a difference over Zeropoints??

I will agree with them being excellent drivers. However, The XO point is at 3K. I found that after some tuning, the tweet will blend perfectly, and has yet to have a problem keeping up. Im assuming you have the drivers close to each other seeing as how you built some pods?

As for the jumper...It adjust the tweeter level. It will give you + 3 db when inserted depending on what size mids you have. I think that the 6's are +3 when it is in. Easiest way to do it is to try it out.

That does make more sense to me now. It says on the crossover that +2dB is "on" and 0dB is "off" for the elite 5. 0 dB is "on" and -2dB is "off" for the elite 6. Then "on" is referring to the jumper being in. . .got it!!

Gee I feel stupid. . .seems pretty obvious now that its been pointed out!

You must have some more inside information on the x-over than I do. I got that 1 KHz from the website.

 I understood it still!!

Anyway, I just measured and the tweets will be mounted 12" away from the mid. I really need to raise the soundstage, so I'm pulling the tweets up to the A-pillar/top of dash level. Do you think this is too far away?

I could still mount the tweets closer to the woofer higher up on the door. Don't want to pull the tweet too far away from the mid, correct?

Which location should I go with?

I don't know about the Elites specifically, but most comp sets that I've heard people discuss are designed to have the mid and tweet at least kinda close together, some set closer together than others. My PG RSD comps are meant to be pretty close.

I have mine in kicks with the tweet down there too and the stage is pretty high, about face, sometimes a tad lower.

I'm going to play with this. I also didn't mention that I'm using coaxial polk momos in the stock locations of the door right now. They are very close to a kickpanel location. The new location for the elites is located more toward the middle of the door and higher up. Angling the tweeter next to and as close to the mid should get me closer to what I'm aiming for!

I'll start there!! I'm just waiting now for my new tweeters to get here.
Thanks for the advice.
