Tantrums or stick with my Bostons?

Whats everyones take on the Tantrum line? I'm thinking about a pair of 500.2s or a 500.2 on my Elite6s and a 300.2 bridged to a Xmax 10. The Bostons I have are a GT-40 ( bridged to the elites @ 190x2) and a GT-22 bridged (500watts x1) to my ED 10O.44 flat cone 10.
i think a Xmax 10 should be able to keep up with a 500.2 bridged (non-basshead but like headroom). Had a 12 on a Ti 600 bridged and loved it.

12 looks and no opinions?? Any way here is a link to the guts of the 500.2 and the GT-22. Just basing the comparo on the total rated power, but the 500.2 is at 4 ohms and the Boton at 2ohms; plus that the closest ones ampguts has.

Well the BA is an old school high current amp

Tantrum = newer school amp

Hell buy the tantrum try it if you like it keep it. If not sell it

I am pretty sure the Boston amps are actually much newer than Tantrum amps are. When I quit Soundbuggy, the Tantrum line was going strong for PG, and Boston had announced making amps, but had not released any to the public. At the time all the Boston show cars which ever came to Soundbuggy used PPI amps or Crossfire amps, which must say something for the brands Boston prefers to use.

I have repaired and tested a few Tantrum amps. I am 95% certain they sound exactly the same as any other PG amps do, cost way less than most PG amps do, and produce their rated power, but not a whole lot more than that.

They are pretty hard to beat for the money.

That 500.2 is a well designed amp. It has noise filtration on the main voltage rails, and uses inductors on the outputs to lower noise, and improve damping factor. Additionally, it has a large power supply and large output section for its rating.

Compare it to this RF amp…

The Tantrum has almost the exact same parts count (which would indicate the same power ability), yet cost a fraction of the price.

Ah! The ol BBQ style RF. Some of my favs! Wish I could find a Power 250X2 and a 500m in decent shape; I used both back in the day. So overall, would you say the Tantrums are better built? I like the idea of the pure raw power equal to the old school RFs.

How about this setup: Tantrum 300.2 bridged to each side of my Ti Elites and a 500.2 powering a single 10. Might be my current ED 10O.44 flat cone or 'insert new sub here'. That should make for more than enough headroom.

my point BA used an old school design tantrums used a more today layout...... oh well never mind
