Problem ZX400Ti

I bought a Zx400ti amp a couple weeks back which doesn't work. When I power it on, the fan turns on but the LED's don't light up and there is no sound output coming from the subwoofer. I had a DEI Competition 4 ohm DVC subwoofer wired for 8 ohms bridged on the amp, and when I connected to the stereo outputs the woofer moved down and stayed there. When I reversed the speaker wires the woofer moved up and stayed there. Also the amp seems to get hot very fast. I know I can send it in to get repaired by PG, but I just sent a Ti500.4 in and don't want to spend the $125 + shipping charges from Mighigan as I only purchased it for $50. Any help is appreciated and sorry for the large pics but I know how you guys love em.

OK Please do not hook the amp to a speaker anymore it Has a blown channel at minimum and your just asking for more trouble by testing it this way.

The DC output on the channels is pushing the woofer cone back into it rear most position and can burn out your voice coils or the amp power supply.

If you test the amp please with no speakers hooked up, also use a voltmeter to test of DC output above 5 milli-volts Dc < 0.005 volts DC.

I am sure that one channel is blown, and if you keep loading the amp into a speaker the power supply might go out also< just a FYI> .....C

That's alright. I'm keeping it, and will just send it in to PG to be repaired.

I agree, don't do that again, it's just not good for the power supply of the amp

If you have good luck, just the last powermosfet will be broken. that doesn't cost verry much

Don't worry, I only hooked up the speaker to see if it worked at all, and when I realized there was a problem I didn't try it anymore. Where would that "last powermosfet" be located? I'm new to amplifier repair so if you could point it out in one of the pictures I would appreciate it.

sorry for my bad spellings or so, but I'm from belgium. I hope that I'm writing not so bad, but my technical english my be poor

In an amplifier there are 2 common things that fails the most:
- the powersupply
- the powermosfets that deliver the current tot the amplified signal

this is because these 2 things draw the most current. if they draw a lot of current, they become verry hot, sow you have to look for heatsinks. these things you find under the fan.

I should not recommend you to do it, but if you know a little about amps en you awake the amp, you should feel dat may be 1 or more of these heatsinks become verry hot in a few seconds... if this is the case, this means that that mosfet is broken.

you would be better off buying a new one as it would be cheaper in the end.

If I get another one I can't be sure that it will be fully functional (kind of like I was assured this one was working). PG will fix it for $110. I have $50 invested in it so far. I've seen them go for near that on e-bay.

like I said: if it is just the powermosfet I will cost almost nothing. nevertheless, you have still the shipping costs that you have to pay...

I have had an amplifier wich had a broken mosfet, it have cost me about 3US dollars to fix this amplifier
