Being out of the country for 7 months I was a bit worried to come back to a burnt out SOFAS< as I have not changed my caps, so when I got back , I went to the car, pulled the cover off and had a good peak at the amp , did the paper test and it seems like my caps were on their last legs.
The tissue paper I used was soaked to the bone, I was a bit strapped for tim,e , but my repair guy confirmed he was not too busy and would be able to work on the amp and get her back to me before I leave for the UK.
Well 2 days later and he just spoke to me, seems I was right , the caps were leaking very badly (no Pics , sorry guys) and the board has been corroded, not burnt , just a bit of corrosion, so he cleaned it up and installed me new 6800uF KFD caps, I wanted the nichicons, but the deepest africa does not stock them. I wanted Rubicon but there was no stock , so I am sure 1moreA and Doc will be here shortly to swear me for my cap choice, but the electronics shop ensured me they are grade 1 caps(whatever that means) .
I will order the nichi's and put them in when I am back in a few months time, better safe then sorry and this is just a quickie until I get back.
Maybe Tristan can put them in my shipment

And no Shaheen I am not gonna say anything about you saving your amp with non recommended caps. As long as your amp is not burned up you have done the right thing
.
Even in lower grade caps, the issue will be shortened life span of the cap. All caps do the same job, its just that some do that job better then others. And this shows up as extended lifespan and service life before failure < or more bang for the buck I like to think>
Its all good that you paper tested and did the right thing to protect your investment. I for one am very happy for you Shaheen
I am sure both Doc and I are glad if we had anything to do with your amplifier salvation, you have made our day for sure. Congratulations oh wise one, way to save.....C
