Installed it this morning before driving into work...
Wow, I really like it. So far the thing sounds almost exactly like the two RSD12's did, but it seems to play less sloppy off of my meager 250 watts.
Quite impressed so far. Still gotta break it in though, so I'll reserve judgement for a few weeks.

It does sound like my previous install with two RSD 12's... I didn't say it was equally loud. All I was indicating is that they still have that fabulous RSD sound quality, with a very wide range of playable frequencies. That said, I don't really notice a difference in volume, and the comp seems to do a better job playing tighter on 250 watts than the two plain RSD 12s.
That tightness is what makes this comp woofer really nice. I'm not used to the bigger woofers being able to play this tight... normally these large subs can hit low notes like a champ, but higher notes are often slow and boomy, until you throw a retarded amount of power at them.
The comp can hold extended low notes, all while playing quick notes mixed in with them. There are a couple of metal songs I have where they have a kickdrum playing through a soundclip of an explosion. With all of the previous woofers I have tried in my setup, except for the RSD10, it just ended up becoming this messed up sloppy bass note, that sounded like nothing. With the RSD comp 12 and RSD 10, you can hear the explosion and kickdrum independently, and both are very clear sounding as well. Difference being that the comp 12 shakes the shit out of the car, while the 10 blends completely into the front stage.
This sub has quickness that reminds me of Ti and Xmax subs, which I always found boomy sounding. I speculate that this is due to their large magnets, whereas with the Xenon and RSD series, PG seems to have stepped down to some weaker motors. This weak motor let the Xenon series hit some insanely low notes. Then, with the RSD line, they seem to have tweaked the parameters, in order to get more tightness on higher notes as well.
The magnets on the RSD comp don't seem to be all that big either, especially compared to other monster woofers. But whatever they did, the woofer sounds like a hybrid between the RSD 10 and 12. You get the shake-the-shit-out-of-your-car-ness of the 12, with the tightness and blending of the 10... all that packaged up with much greater power handling and much higher quality materials. I am curious what the comp 10 sounds like... it's probably quite the gatling gun.
Today I am going to install my old RSD 12's in Fuzzy's 4runner, so I can see how they sound off of his M100. He also has a much bigger box for them, which combined should make them sound much better than the less-than-ideal setup I had mine in. With this information in mind I can probably give a more accurate portrayal of the differences between the two.

I wasn't 100% happy with them... maybe because in the 4runner I was sitting in the same airspace as the subs, while in my car they were placed in the trunk. Maybe it's because I had 1cuft for each woofer, while Fuzzy had 1.5 or more. They had great depth and lots of power, but on higher notes I found the RSD12's to be somewhat boomy in the 4runner... then again, I think I thought the same thing of his previous XS woofers.eyesofra wrote:can't wait to know how it would sound in a bigger box and M100 set-up...
There was a bunch of tweaking we could have done... I would have fiddled with the crossovers and such, to see if we can find a better combination for the subs. The sub box is also not perfectly sealed... there are a lot of screw-sized holes, and the wires are just fed through a largeish hole. Perhaps sealing those would help as well. Unfortunately I had little time there, with too much else to do.
Unfortunately with the horribly cold weather here I can't resume reviewing the RSD comp... it will have to wait until we reach a more reasonable -30 or so
Typically I really don't like 12" subwoofers though... I am a 10'aholic, so my review might be slightly biased towards tighter playing speakers.
I'm heading back out to Vancouver in 4 weeks. That should give both of us time to get my RSD comp 12 and his RSD 12's dialed in for best results... then I will have a better comparison.

It was the box I bought with the M100 and XS subs.
There is no terminal on the back. The speaker wires were just fed through a hole that is partially covered. It sucks but I've never heard anything awful like whistling or what not. The hole is mostly covered by the EQ but it's not sealed by the EQ.
It's an OK box for what it is, it's just the finer details that suck... like that fact that the bottom has no carpeting.
Anyways, this box fits well so I think I might just fix it up instead of building a new one.
So far I feel mostly the same way as Tom about the RSD12s in this setup. I also have a small cubby box rattling problem that needs to be resolved. I think my booster cables are rattling inside that box on deep bass.

And I'm sad to say I know what might have led to this blatant rationalization... too much
It's not a bad box by any means. Hell, the lip for the subwoofers is routered down so that they sit flush with the surface of the box. I think if we added a terminal cup, and filled up some of the now-empty screw holes from his previous grille, the box would be perfectly sealed, and better than most aftermarket ones.
If I wore you I would get the 2 10`s and give them every bit of 1100 rms that you have. You can see the recomended box sizes below.
I bought the RSdC124 and its on its way. I will be powering it with a JBL 1201.1. PG says that the optimum SQ box for the 12`s is a ported box 2.5cub port of 3'' x 11.8''. So I am making both the ported and the sealed. The sealed will be at 1.17cub. So that I can see which one will blend better with my alpine type X`s in sealed boxes of about .3cub. They sound very detailed. crossed at 31.5hz and powered by a JBL75.4. I couldnt be happier with them! Pant shaking bass!!!
I am hoping that the sub will arrive by friday so I can work on the boxes this weekend... We will see..

I bought the JBL a couple months ago. The specs came from one of the forums here, I don`t know who posted them. You can always email PG and ask if your box would work properly. I think their recomended ported boxes are tunned at arround 23hz (SQ). Is your box sealed or vented? What kind of setup do you want: SPL SQ SQL ?
