RX8 system install...help please.

Post by Ahsmo »

A kid at my school wants me to help him install a system in his RX8.

I also need to help pick out the equipment.

I would like to use all PG components for this install because...I am a brand whore. Granted, I am open to suggestions. Thus far I have come up with this but I am unsure if the amp I have picked has enough balls to run a sub well.

Price objective: $1000
Car: RX8
Music preference: Rock for normal listening, bullshit squarewave rap for showing off to stupid kids.

Going to use the stock deck so I need a hi to low converter. Is it worth getting a fancy JL audio converter?

Amp: RSD 500.4
Front Components: RSD6.5
Rear fill: nope
Sub: 10inch RSDc

4 guage amp kit

Anyone think I am steering him wrong here? I am not confident that the RSDc will be getting enough power.

I run my RSDc 12 on the rear of my Ti500.4, and it whoops my ass. A 10 should be fantastic 8)

Just use a PG SLD44 for your converter.

After checking through google a bit, it looks like the stock non-bose headunit outputs a flat signal, so an SLD44 would work for sure.

I would go with the

rsd600.1
rsd250.2
rsd65cs
rsdc10d4

and buy some install gear from knu

http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetai ... ID=KFX-AK4
http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetai ... ID=KOL-AK8

(or just bulk order the 4awg, and dist blocks etc)

that should put him right around 800-850

man... you guys are good.

fowler. I would prefer those amps to a single 4 channel but for simplicity's sake the 4 channel may more than meet this guy's needs.

...He thinks his 5.1 logitec system sounds better than my 2.0 studio monitor setup

If I can convince him to spend a little extra I may go with 2 RSDc 10s and a 600.1

I am going to use one of these boxes: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda-RX ... QQtcZphoto

I have no tools to use for this install so building my own box or glassing something is out of the question. Besides, I doublt I could build a box for much cheaper or better.

that IS a sweet box. two rsdcs for sure. or even normal rsd's if the budget wont allow

running two power wires isnt two much harder then 1 :)

I've talked to a few installers who complain that the 'Cleansweep' has it's issues. Noise problems as well as delays in processing which makes it's own wierdness.

If the PLD44 had a 3rd set of outputs for subwoofer with a remote volume control it would be the shiznit!

Box might be way too big for a single RSDc 10... they need only ~0.6cuft each.

Dude! Good idea.

I do prefer though to have my subwoofer volume limited at the amp, instead of at the processor. That way I get an 8 volt signal going to the back, which is then internally limited in the amplifier, instead of sending a lower voltage signal instead. Fortunately most of our amps have that taken care of already, but I can see how that would be very handy in many other cases ;)

Good point. Not all amps are created equal as you mention. Having that ability would make it universal.

I think I could ask them to parition the box off.

Would .75 cuft be too much? I figured it would be negligible.

If that's before woofer displacement, then you're fine.

Heck with all that extra airspace you could throw a sizable port in it. No sense letting half of that room go to waste :P

if you use the SLD44 I can walk you through how to mod it and use it as an AUX in (another idea that PG wouldn't hear).
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.

The custom built box can't be efficiently built for that price.

As far a box volume goes, couldn't you just add properly secured wood strips inside to bring it down to a "better" level? Comments?

That would be useful. Thank you!

With the driver in place, it should be close to .6

The boxes are good quality, I have seen boxes he has built for the 350z. I have gotten into arguements with the guy over a few things in the past but his boxes are nice.
