ive got an eclipse 8454, and it was a worthwhile upgrade from my 9813. Its never given me much problems, except once in awhile on cold days the display has flickered once or twice.
I'm afraid of widths.

good point mack. the premier decks do have overly-sensitive rca pre-outs. just make sure that the deck itself and any amps have good, solid grounds. i've seen plenty of premier decks suffer damage when an amp attempts to ground itself thru the ground trace on the deck's pre-out. also, be sure to have equipment turned off when connecting or disconnecting rca's. it really sounds like much more trouble than it is, so don't worry about it, just something to consider if you're installing it on your own.

If you can find one! I looked before I got the 980BT to replace my Eclipse 8455.

Got me thinking about the 880 now also. The only thing I don't like is tuning a whole 16 bands. Doesn't it take everyone forever to tune that many bands? I had a Tieq15 a while ago and I just had such a hard time tuning that thing...I never got it right and eventually just sold it because it was so much trouble. Does the 880's eq have 2db increments or 1db increments?

Tuning 16 or 32 or 64 bands is easy, but completely pointless unless you have an RTA. I have never met a person who can do it by ear.

What is the best deal around on an RTA? Anyone sell a reasonably priced one? I know they are most often not cheap in any way...

If you have a laptop, just get a calibrated mic and some RTA software.

Hell, I was just fooling around today using some software with the mic built into my laptop. It's not dead accurate, but it gives you a pretty good idea.

:)

Heck I used to have a 232, but I did have a friend of mine that used an RTA though.

I've been looking around on ebay and a few other sites. If I go with the 880 then i'll probably ditch trying to get another 232 or a 215 eq.

Now that is an idea you got there stipud with the laptop and mic. Even if you could come close to what you can get with an RTA that would help a lot of people out I would assume.

I was looking at Eclipses cd5000 and cd7000 and apparantely you can go to their website and create a CD or usb data to play in your deck. It will tailor somehow your car and give you some settings for the EQ that would be a possible guide to tweak the eq.

get an RTA do it right....

Try to do it by ear then go to your rta, I bet until you "know" what is right you'll be off.
