Re-anodising an Outlaw a different colour - sacrilege?

Post by paulbfd »

I'm wanting to try and keep a colour theme running through my install, the car is black but the interior has silver highlights (heater bezels, etc).

The doorcards are going to rebuilt, using an alcantara that matches the current colour and the mids will have a perspex ring same colour as the cars other interior highlights.

This trend will continue into the boot, Hertz Mille sub, again with perspex ring, alcantara same as the door..... then a purple Outlaw.

There's a company down the road from me that do anodising, but would that ruin the Outlaw? Am I coming over all JOMA?

It would be done in black or maybe silver, not gold or chrome!

Silver would be cool, and later on you can sell it for a lot of money as one of a kind :D

I guess I wouldn't if the Outlaw in question is a nice one. Now if it's finish is bad anyway then why not.

Anyone got a beat up Outlaw case to use for this?
Unless yours has already done a round or two with George St. Pierre.

Exactly^

you could trade your case if its nice for a beat up one +$$, then refinish the beat up one.

I've bought one off Masons Jeep on TA that isn't perfect (see the pics on TA), I haven't collected it yet but if it wasn't important to have a mint version for re-anodising would you consider a trade + cash, If yours is in better condition?

Mine is mint, so I guess looking out for another case could be an option.

CBR I might take you up on that, but part of me would rather keep the original in true PG hoarder style!

What about the heatsink? Is that anodised or painted?

anodised too .

It would look wicked in a gloss black with gold writing , or red (wait someone did that already   )

it needs a color which will show off the logo , also it might be a bit of a mission to get that logo off without breaking it

@cbr, i'm still convinced that outlaw would clean up considerably with the right chemicals, it looks like someone had a go at laquering the finish to protect it and it's started pealing off, unless it had bad scratches on the case i wouldn't right it off just yet... i could tell you more with some high res pics of it.

One thing I failed to think of, the writing on the amp! That would be nigh on impossible to replicate???

Can't tell you anything about the sub as I've not got it yet. I'm running the Mille MLK2 up front and they sound amazing off an M100. The car's going back to the installers at weekend to have some pretty trick door builds done to reposition the mid and get the tweeters up in the A-pillars.

Should hopefully (funds allowing) have to sub and boot build done next month so I can get to competing. Will report back then.

i don't think it matters too much on this amp, you can hardly see it to start with on a mint example. DO IT BLACK, it'll look well sweet.

Just phoned the local anodsiers.

Rough price without seeing it with dimensions I gave was £55+ VAT which includes stripping the original coating.

Only problem he said might be after stripping it'll come out with a satin finish, not a shiny one. I'll get myself down there with the amp and see what's what.

It will have to go in "as is" for now though, car is off to Source on Saturday and I'm going to get the boot build done as well as the doors with the possibilty of competing at the EMMA event at L&J Audio on the 3 & 4 May. Paul (owner of Source, not me!) is keen to get into EMMA and was speaking to a guy from there on Monday about my car as a possible contender this year.
