My basic little system...
Hey guys, just back into the car audio scene following my divorce, it had been a 6 year layoff for me! After looking at the "modern" amplifiers out there, I wound up brushing the dust off my old ZX-450, hooking it up to a modern set of Polk Audio SR-6500's and my old pair of alumapro alchemy 12" that I had sitting in its sealed enclosure for the last six years. I reviewed the new decks out there, as my old alpine went w/ a car many years ago, and wound up with an Alpine CDA-9887. After setting up the Imprint feature on the deck with my local dealer, all I can say is WOW! Modern tech (new speak designs/Imprint) along w/ old school high-current triple darlington design, you cant beat this combo! My old ZX flat out chews up my buddys new Orion, no comparison! Anyway, a few weeks ago I listened to a set of Treo 10" TSX's in a ported box and I was blown away by the SQ. Last night I installed a single 12" TSX dvc (4 ohms each, running in parallel on one bridged side of the amp) in a sealed 1.2 cuft enclosure, and my god! IT IS THE BEST SUB I HAVE EVER HEARD! Flat, hard hitting and soooo musical. If you havent heard one of these, you owe yourself to check them out. I 'm not a rep or anything like that, just an old school gearhead that was flat floored by this sub! Next step? I am thinking about swooping up a ZX-350 off ebay, run it stereo to my Polks while I bridge my ZX-450 on the dvc Treo! We will see, this may be too much for me and my '05 Accord! Any opinions or ideas guys?

I'd say if it sounds good to you, then that's all that matters. I would recomend you deaden the trunk atleast if you havent. I had to strip the trunk and used 2 cans of GREAT-STUFF in the nooks and cranies to rid the rear deck of rattles. Also, the "basic 3" is a good idea.

I agree, speaker technology has improved tremendously over the last 10 years. Composite materials are lighter and stronger. However, unless you go into the very high end, today's amplifiers couldn't carry a quality old school amp's ball sack.
It will probably be easier to find another ZX450 or a ZX400ti than a ZX350. Personally, I don't see 350's offered that often.

The only stupid question is the one not asked .......
That would be a whole lot of power, 250 watts on each polk! Although I would have enough power/channels to add mid-bass drivers to my doors down the line! WHERE DOES IT END? LOL! If I bridged the ZX-450 to the subs and ran the ZX-500 on the Polks, wouldnt that give me much cleaner power on my seps than running the 450 bridged?

Cleaner power? No. Both the 450 and 500 are class A/B so they will have the same sound quality. Plus the 500 will handle the subwoofer better than the 4-channel.

I was always under the impression a 4 ohm stereo load has less THD than a 4 ohm bridged (or two ohm stereo) load... hence the cleaner power I was talking about. Am I off base here?

^nope, your right...although that amp was desigend with 4ohms bridged in mind, so the difference should be damn near negligable.
i think they are a couple people running treo's on here, heard nothing but good things...i am holding tight with my PG RSDc12 though
we really need to have someone do a review of those two!

These polk are smooth, dynamic and very, very clean. I had a pro install on them and WOW! The imaging is amazing! They are hands down a better pair of seperates than my old A/D/S 346is's. TREO, yes, you have found the light. I heard TREO a few years back, managed to get one and wont go to anything else for myself. My wife on the other hand, for now I'm using an XMAX10 sealed, but will end up getting her an RSDC10.
I have a TREO SSi12.22 wired in series powered by a PG ZPA0.5 in a ported box tuned to 37Hz. i'm in the middle or revamping my install and I'll be making a new box tuned to 32Hz. All for SQ. In its current stage, it's more of an SQL box.
I built a box for a friend of mine for a TSX10 off of a JL 500/1...WOW!
Enjoy it and get the TREO name out there.

Hands down, the TREO TSX 12 is the best sub I have ever heard, and I have heard many. Smooth, deep and oh so musical. I cant believe what my one little 12 will do w/ only one side of my ZX-450 on it, I cant wait for my ZX-350 to get here to really hear how this baby is going to sound!smgreen20 wrote:TREO, yes, you have found the light. Here is the rest of my system. I am waiting for my new ZX-350 to arrive, then I will be building some type of an amp rack, havnt quite decided on the layout yet. I also wanted to shoot a pic of my doors pre-custom install, I am pumped for the full treatment on June 24th!

Sold, but here is a pic anyway. They really pounded but lacked any volume with notes lower than 50 HZ. After hearing my buddies new Treo 10's in a Treo ported enclosure, I put my alumapros on ebay and ordered a Treo TSX 12" dvc the very next day...Confusedsoul wrote:Got a pic of those Alchemy's
