To terminal or not to terminal?

I have akmost complrted my box and was wondering everyones opinion on using terminas for the enclosure? I read some stuff about resistance and stuff and I am not sure if I should use the radio shack terminals or if I should just drill small holes for the wire and then mighty putty around the wires

Thoughts?

i think the resistance is pretty negligible, but i like to just drill holes for cables just because the terminal plates are more of a pain to cut out, and are a weak point for the box.

I drill 2 holes and run 10 gage power cable. Hit it with some RVT and yer golden.

I have always done the same for my sealed enclosures, since going ported I just run my wires throught the ports.

I use terminals, because I pull my subs all the time.

I have seen many run there wires through the ports but doesnt that cause noise?

Stipud removes his box so terminals are critical.
I terminal too because I test other drivers with that amp.
Fowler sees no reason to compromise the box's integrity by punching another hole in it.

All viable.

I figure the only noise to heard by running your wires out through the ports would be the soft comments in the back about why the lazy bastard didn't professionally route his signal wires after putting so much time and effort into building it.......

I just figure it would look hack, unless the ports are hidden from view..... nope... I just couldn't do it. Wouldn't be able to sleep.

I think I want to just drill 2 small holes and run the wire through , I will drill them where terminals could be so if in the future I decide for some reason they are needed

I was also considering those binding posts you listed. Because I am so excited to test my sub in the new box that I completed today I will go ahead and drill some holes in the back and run some of the new Power flow wire through and I guess try some mighty putty?? I have used plumers putty like this before and it might not be as messy but will not make a solid hold like mighty putty would.

If you have a single speaker in there, with one voice coil; drill a hole.
If you have multiple speakers, or voice coils; use [double] terminals.
In the later case, you can always vary impedance when using another amp/ make modifications on your install without having to pull the speaker out of the cabinet, and possably damage the seal.
As for the "weakness"of the cabinet, when using a terminal; on that given cut-out area, there will be no force generated inside the cabinet to compromise that stiffness.. no way! [so no worries]

I will be using a quad coil sub and 2 pairs of coils will be wired in parallel so I will have 2 sets of wire going into the box from one amp

I like these, they require a 1/4" hole each, about the same as for a wire, accpet 8ga wire, and allow multiple configurations

I use the Connections out of a terminal block as in the last pic. If you're worried about the terminal being a weak point, do as I at times, cut out the spot for the terminal, put in said terminal and cut out a piece of wood 1" wider then it on all 4 sides, drill a hole in the wood to run the speaker wire through and cover the terminal on the inside of the box.
