xenon 10" 2 ohm subs...should I try them

Post by buckster »

My neighbor wants me to take a pair off is hands for 100 bucks. He has them in a prefab box and I don't think it does them any justice. I think the price is very good but not sure about the 2ohm idea nor do I have enough power with my rockford 500s. I have a 99 Ranger and probably only need one of them. Heck for 100 bucks I almost want to try them.

I have been reading and really like the opinion on the RSD comps around here. I listen to Rock (can't seem to a week without listening to Tool) and a little R&B/rap...but country makes my teeth hurt.

Running Morel 6 comp up front.

So, do you think I would be waisting my time?

Offer him $90.

I'd say if they fit and are in excelent condition then grab 'em. Saying they are dual 2, you'll have to wire each woofer for 4ohms and rally 'em. The 500s should be enough power to run them. Are you running the morel's off that amp now?

The RSdc's are awesome but will run ya alot more $$$.

Honestly, for $50 a woofer, they are pretty good subs. They are very bottom heavy, so you will need to have decent midbass up front. Your Morels should be capable enough if you've got deadened doors. I'm not sure how big the prefab is, but I reckon 2 cubic feet (1 per sub) would be perfect for them.

A single RSD comp would be nearly the same price though, and probably suits your tastes a bit better.

^ditto

in a truck the response of the sub would be a little better but they have almost no output in the 60-80hz range...where most rock bass notes live.

they need a pretty big box, i'm running mine at 1.4 sealed right now.

i have tried so hard to get it to blend into my system...but just doesn't seem to happen. 3 different boxes, firing different directions, digital crossovers, On board crossovers...ranging from 50-120...i am in love with its low end...but just can't get it to sound nice with my mids.

its like abusive relationship with a beautiful girl....who is Fu<king crazy. i don't want to give up on it...but i know damn well i should leave.

as said, i would take a normal RSD12, or a RSDc 10 instead personally for the same, or marginally more

Thanks for the responses and I do like the idea of the RSDc's better I think. I am using a memphis ref 10 right now and would like something a bit more musical but it's now bad for the price. Also I am using a JL e4300 for the fronts and rears puts out 45-75(at 14.4volts) I am installing a T600.4 this weekend though.

Thanks for the responses, so are you guys saying that a single RSDc 10 would very close to the same output as 2 xenon 10's?
