2 vs. 1

Post by BEAVER »

I thought I'd ask here, since I'm getting conflicting opinions elsewhere...

I am currently running a single IDQ10V3 ported in 1.3 cft. @ 28hz on a Xenon 600.1 and have been considering makng a switch to two of them sealed in .75cft. each. Acording to the box building program I am using, my single ported sub should be louder from 20-50hz, but this doesn't take the vehicles transfer function into consideration.

My thoughts are that two will actually be a little louder due to an increase in tranfer function with more cone area... and although my ported set-up sounds great ,the sealed set-up should sound just as good, maybe a little better.

Taking all of this into consideration, should I make the switch?

i think it would sound better. the overall loudness wont be much different, but i would think you will have a much smoother range of notes.

Kind of my way of thinking, as well... output should be more or less the same, maybe a little louder and sound quality should be similar or a little better, too.

Hmmm? To do, or not to do? We shall see...

I'm building my next box to house one 12" ported w/the port being on a removable plate so as a 2nd sub could go in the box and become sealed. The local store I'm sure would let me test out a 2nd sub w/o purches so when the time comes I could tell you my results.
