Hey guys..i have a couple of stupid questions but i need to ask them..lol

on my deck i have a high pass filter now it is set at 80..so that means that only frequencies above 80 come through my F/R spks correct? or what would an avg setting be cause i cant tell the diff, my options are 50-63-80-100-125Hz.

and that same stupid question applies to my Subwoofer cutt-off freq.
I think mine is at 80 as well and i have the same options as the hi pass filter
50-63-80-100-125
so whatever its set at the lower frequencies only come out correct?..

- HP filter @ 80hz indicates anything above 80 Hz is sent to these outputs. Additional filtering further down these outputs can further send higher frequencies to tweets and the remainder to mids.
- LP filter @ 80hz indicates anything below 80Hz is sent to these outputs.

If an active perocessor (X-Over) is in your system, you should send ALL frequencies in and allow the device settings to distinguish which frequencies appear at it's specific outputs. In other words, defeat any filter controls at the HU.

and my amp is the Octane 8:0.4.

because no matter what settings i use i hear no difference whatsoever...im really lost and confused but then again im from africa we do things backwards..

X-over= crossover I don't know off hand but does the Octane have a built in x-over? If so it may be defeating the one from your HU or head unit.

i know my amp only has a • 12dB HP/LP variable crossovers cause on th side of it there is a front and rear freq control switch 40-400 its set at 90 right now.

You can try disabling one or the other and set it accordingly to your setup.

Give us an idea of your system. ie... one 4 channel amp (model #) running how many and what speakers.

it sounds like you are actually setting them ok.

on the HP, you should set them as low as you can without getting distrotion.

start with the amp, work your way up from lower to higher.

if you get above 80ish and still get distrotion, enable the H/U's HP and repeat the process until you can listen to it loud without distortion.



the sub will work much the same way, but its more your preference. the higher you set it, the "louder" it will be, but at the same time, it will become more directional and less clean.

80 is a good number for most systems, SQ oreneted system will drop to 60 and lower.

AVICJR, well its a 4 channel amp PG Octane R 8:0.4
and im running 2 PG Octane Z-R 10" Subs thats it. My HU has the HPF at 100 and the Subwoofer Cuttoff freq at 80.


So Bfowler..my amps frequencie is set at 90 for each sub if i increase the freq it goes louder, but aat the same time when i increase my sensitivity it gets louder aswell..

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. Even the "smart" guys in here were audio dopes at one time. Most of us still are.

It would be best to explain your entire audio signal path through each component from HU to speaker. Include device part numbers and switch settings (if any) as well.

those two functions make it louder in different ways.

increasing frequency creates a wider range of notes that the sub is playing, the higher notes are easier for the sub to play, thus making more noise. decreasing it lets it concentrate on fewer notes thus letting it play the fewer notes better. ~70-80 is usually the happy medium of this

the sensitivity basically relates to how much you are amplifying the audio signal. you don't really want to use this as a volume knob. it should be set in a way that your subs get proportionally louder with your speakers when you increase the volume on the H/U

feel free to play with it as needed to add a little extra to a song, or attenuate a song with too much. just don't push the subs to distortion

Do you have a LPL bass knob? if not, its a very worthwile investment.
