PG M25 / M100 / soldering problem

Post by Edgey »

I have issues with my amps and I think it's because of the poor job my 'electrician' mate did of the soldering.

A couple of the pads fell off so I'm assuming that's where the problem begins.

How do I go about making these joints good.

Also is clear silicone bathroom sealant good enough to put between the caps?

Just look for joints that are not "Shiny" a cold joint can cause alot of problems. I usually dont end a job until I see each one of my joints with a shiny contact. I would also be sure nothing is loose

I hope this is the problem, it sounded lovely for a week

I run both amps as an active front end :D

Are you talking about the pads between the capacitors?

Also , if you use bathroom caulk to separate the caps you should make sure nothing leaks onto the board

The shiney pads under the board that the solder was stuck to, the top of the board is pristine.

Ohhh!! Ouch... he actually ripped the traces off the board!? You might have to install jumper wires now. Can we get some pictures of the damage?

I'll get some pics tomorrow when I strip them. It's sounding like I might need to take them to a pro.
