Help with PLD1 install in 3 amp system

Post by Hoser »

Please forgive me if I use the wrong terms, I'm just getting back into the game. Back when I originaly bought my equipment I paid other people lots of $ to set it up. Looking at it now, and with all of the info on this site, I figure it's easy enough to do myself and save some coin.

Here is the way I am thinking of setting it all up:

ZX500 running 2 pairs of 6.75" polk 2-ways (using #1 of 2 deck outputs)
M100 running a pair of 12" Soundstream SPL's (using the second deck output but with a bass cube in-line). I would be using the LP filter on the M100 and then using the output from the M100 to an M50 to run 1 pair of 6.75" polk 2-ways. I assume this would give me the HP Filter that I would need for the 2-ways.

The only question is what to do with this PLD1 that I have on the shelf. Could I split the signal after the PLD1 and run 1 line to the ZX500 and 1 to the M100? Should I just use it on the ZX500? Or am I missing something? Is there a better way to set all of this up?

you can use one line line driver to run multiple amps- if u look at say the eq manuels, it shows one output from headunit to line driver to eq, onto amps, check it out under car audio manuels and look at old eqs, under setups

I don't want to use an EQ. I was hoping to find another way to run the LD to all thee amps without getting new gear.

Well You will need 2 y adapters ( 1 male to 2 females) and then run two sets of rca's to the amps

I would personally run the ZX500 to the subs because of the fan and I believe that it will deliver a little more power to them as well.

You could run the LD to the M100 input and use that amps external output to the M50 for both sets of Polks.

I agree.. I would run the zx500 for the subs.

I believe the M100 says in the manual that its only likes 2 volts, so the pld may be to much for the m100 and m50.. I could be totally wrong on this..

The M's will be fine with a LD. And now that I look at it you can run one RCA to all 3 amps if you use the ZX500 for sub duties.

After the LD run one RCA directly to the ZX500, set it to Low Pass frequency for your sub then use the auxillary output to send a High Pass frequency to the M's. Next run an RCA from the output on the ZX to the M100 and then out on the M100 to the M50.

Then how would the line driver do any of the other amps any good? Does the zx500 have a put 4 volts in get 4 volts out type of thing or 8 volts in it will relay 8 volts out?

Are you using a line driver for low voltage?

I'm pretty sure all PG stuff will pass-through the higher voltage from amp to amp, no problem

I never really checked the voltage. I had the LD sitting around so I figured I would use it. From what I've read on this forum I was hoping that it would take a little of strain off of the amps.

I was hoping it would be that easy. I think that's what I'll do.

Thanks.

The configuration I gave you sounds complicated but it really isn't, it's super easy. Plus you will have the crossover settings. Your better off "jumping" an RCA from amp to amp. One long one and two short RCA's is all you will need, and you will take advantage of the LD like you originally wanted. Don't "Y" it.

And yes on the amps whatever voltage is sent in ie..(8 volts)is exactly what voltage goes out (8 volts) .

Right now I have the M100 for the 2 sets of Polks and it doesn't quite cut it compared to the ZX500. It overheats fairly quickly as well. That's something I didn't expect. The ZX500 never overheated when I had it running the Polks. Also I like the SQ and loudness of the ZX500 better then the M100 for my 2-ways. This stereo is installed on my boat so I need to be able to crank it up to hear over the motor and behind the boat while being towed. As far as getting more power to the subs, they are being run by the M50 at the moment and they sound just fine. I think that driving them with the M100 will be more then enough.

Thanks for to everyone who responded. The input is much appreciated.

Is there a way to do it while using the ZX500 to run the 2 pairs of Polks? What is the problem with Y'ing it?
