OctaneR series Junk?

Post by Slippin3 »

Hey Guys,

So I am in the middle of installing and building the new system, so everything is in stages lol.

1. I put my new deck in (Avic F90BT), and had speakers off headunit only. Sounded OK. Not great, but better than factory

2. I ran new wiring, and hooked the speakers and small (8") Eclipse sub up to the amp (minus rears). HORRIBLE! I spent time playing with Freq and gains just for fun, but nothin....

The sound is tin like, and the 6" OctaneR speakers sound not much better than only tweeters! What gives? Why would the amp make them sound worse? I tried every setting on the amp for fun, and its just no good.... at all. :(

Thoughts?
John

PS - Tomorrow I will dash in the new RSD amp for fun and see what it does :)

the amps are fine...just standard mosfet amps like everyone makes. nothing special. but reliable

the subs are ok...again nothing special, but comparibale to other brands low end offerings

the speakers.....sorry to say are garbage.

the midbass is lacking, and donst play much below 80. they don't have a passive crossover network, only a inline resistor. the mylar tweets are harsh and undetailed...

first thing i would do is put some fleece over the tweets and see if that tames them at all. cross the mids over at 80.

do the mids have a fairly stable baffle?

Just installed in the door. Have been for a while.

Why do they sound worse on an amp though? I dont get that... much much worse. Either that or the stock rears were filling in that much.

I want my RSD stuff in ASAP

What settings should everything be at on the amp when I throw it in? (RSD65Cs up front and 5x7 rears (RSD). I looked into setting the gains with a DMM, but I didnt quite get it

Thanks
John

You may have the xover on your amp set too high.

Turns out the mids are trashed..... seized solid. Not sure why! I only ever powered them off a OctaneR 5.0.4.

I threw in the RSDC 6.0" Comps tonight, and they are simply awesome. I have them in without crossovers at the moment, but will throw them in tomorrow. Very pleased. I wonder how good the crossover will make them :)
