midbass driver placement

Post by scorpio86 »

ok so i know everyone here will say to place them up front, doors/kicks etc. how bad for listening would it be to have some 8" woofers for midbass ya kno like 60-80 up to whatever 100-200something in the rear with the subwoofers.. ?? im not gunna lie, im trying to avoid building kicks for my car :-P

you might as well just let your sub play those notes then and avoid multiple drivers.

it wouldnt do anything good really imo.

if you are after tonality then no problems - but if you want proper SQ ie including good staging and imaging then i think that anything other than a sub is a no-no at the back

even when it comes to subs - no matter how transparent it seems (ie when you cant figure out its location) there will always be circumstances where you hear it coming from the back - midbass will be even worse - and even though some people have competed with midbass drivers in the rear i still reckon that it will adversely effect your soundstage

it will be an even better compromise to place them in the doors even though that doesnt take into account the pathlength differences but it will be easier to have them as far forward in the doors as you can than to place them in the back IMHO
