Ti12d Elite replaceable cones?

Post by culzero »

Ok I know PG made them for a little while but I do not remember if it was for only one person or not. When the Ti12d Elite came out there was a guy that ran 6 Elites and 12 Tantrum 1200.1 in a civic hatch back. He appealled to PG to make hime an SPL cone and they did. If I remember they called it the "MO Woofer" It was a custom 3 coil sub but it did not use the flat piston design.

Does anyone know if these went into production or were these just a one-off? If they did I may like to get my hands on four of them :D

Thanks for the help.

ah yeah, the mo cone. they were more then just a 1 off, but by no means production. i haven't seen one (or even a normal re-cone ) for a long time now

just a fyi, if these are for anything other then competition, you will be very un happy. they were made specifically to be super efficient one note wonders

I want to break the 150db mark in my '02 GMC Envoy. As it sits now I have (4) Elites on 6kw RMS in a ported box tuned @ 28 Hz ( I believe). I have gotten 147.9db @ 37Hz sealed on the dash and 147.0 @ 47Hz sealed in the kick.

Was just hoping that the mo cone would be a little more powerful and still sound decent.

Who would I contact to find out if they have any available?

they probibly will get you over the 150 mark....but WONT sound good doing it. they were not at all designed for music. PM oldschoolfool and Roland and see if they can point you in the right direction

you might have better luck going for a DD sub, or something along those lines

well if it ain't gonna sound good then I guess I'll just have to buy a couple more Elite's :D  :D Wonder if I can fit 8 ported in the Envoy?? I'll have to tune it higher than 28Hz though otherwise won't have enough airspace. May have to take out the back seat as well.

It sounds like shit... it's pretty much an enormous midbass driver. But it's definitely louder.

haha Mo cone = Moe Sabourin. One of the nicest guys I ever met.

I would think you should be able to hit that 150 mark easily with what you have now. Although 28hz tuning is awfully low for SPL. Even if you're looking for a happy medium between SQ and SPL, you could go higher.

Not to compare or criticize, but rather share in my amazement. I did an SPL competition this summer where a guy with 2 - 12's and 3k of power in a hatchback did a 152.7! ... ! That was crazy!

You should easily be able to break 150 with your setup with the right box. A simple box design change will get you that 150 you need easy 8) You will need to tune it higher, and tons of port area.

Tune higher, you cant expect to hit optimum numbers with a box tuned under 30 hertz  tune it on up to35-40 if you want it somewhat musical still.

no i never used the cone period. the complexity of my enclosure will not allow me to remove it to try it.

so i decided against not using it although i really wanna try it..

on note wonder with the right power and higher tuning in my enclosure would be crazy

How is that cone not SQ? the only difference is that it is a paper cone right? Isn't that the perfered medium for sound next to a wood cone? I should be more effiecint too.

the cone material isnt the ONLY thing that factors into that. a heaveir cone is what allows the sub to play lower notes. (think about the law conservation of energy. more mass means it takes more to bring it to rest. or better yet think of a pendulum. a heaver mass will swing longer then the lighter mass. low notes are "longer" notes

the lighter cone makes it quick, but unable to play the low notes the normal TI could. since it has the same motor, everything is a direct tradeoff

less volume = more range and viseversa

Untrue. The very idea that paper cones cannot reproduce low frequencies is ludicrous. 90% of all subwoofers were made from this material until recently. The weight of the cone does not make it “play lower” its simply trades sensitivity for rigidity. I would not be worried by the musicality of the comp cone. I think it will sound fine and play louder. I would miss those LEDs though… I’d be interested to know the sensitivity on that SPL cone brenzbmr@sb.

Did they limit the freq response on the cone?

^there are MANY pieces to the puzzle. of course you can make a light cone play low with different motor/magnet/vc clearance/box size/xmax

in the case of the TI replacement cone. you aren't changing the other variables, you are just making the cone lighter which WILL NOT play as low as the original cone. all other components equal, lighter cone plays higher.

and in this specific case...i can tell you the mo cone DOES NOT play low notes. its not that its unclean...it was just specifically designed to be a efficient one note wonder.
