As for homeowners insurance, pictures and receipts help. Some places keep records of your purches' so see if they still have a copy of your receipt. If they don't get a datedcopy of what it would cost to have those items replaced and file it away.
If it's auto insurance, of course receipts and pics help, but.... Most insurance companies will only replace that which was stolen from a factory location only. For the extra items, xover, amp/s, sub/s, etc... you will have to pay extra for. I'm covered up to $4,000 extra for only $80.00 more per year.
For items bought on ebay, find similar items and click the "watch this" link and after that item has ended print out the page and file. That way you have proof that that's what it would cost to replace today for things no longer made. Watch multiple items of the same thing. Print the one that sells for the most. < Was told to me by my insurance company. Also if you bought a CD that was more then the average price for a CD, say $45.00 keep that receipt if your CDs get stolen as well. They can then assume that that is the one in the CD player even if it wasn't. Again, my insurance company (Nationwide) told me this.

ur right smgreen20- if u ur willing to pay a very small amount extra( like urs for an entire year) almost all insurance companies will cover loss of equipment , usually the4-5k range, along with the pics and receipts- hell, even if u bought it of the bay, or someone here, ur paypal trans. alone should be suffecient enuff- I would suggest, from my personal experience, be proactive and send them receipt copies and pics before an occurence; i used to pay extra, now i dont, our garage door weights like 2500lbs, and when our power went out once during one of the hurricanes-power out for 3days-, me and 5 neighbour guys , released it to open manually, and we could barely get it up beyond 6inches-and i very rarely drive the audi anymore, best wishes-ssims

all i can do is hope its bad enough i pay a grip load on the insurance as it is but the garage isnt connected to my condo and what really a pain in the ass is all the paper work
