Curious-what causes Resistors to go bad/look burnt

Thankfully ive yet to open any of the amps I have and see burnt/fried out resistors , but I am curious as to what causes this, or if theres even a straightforward answer????? Thanx guys-

Too much current... can be caused by anything. A failing transistor, hooking your leads up backwards, etc.

hmmm, i just see that in pics alot when people open their amps up, and was wondering (not that im asking for it) why Ive never seen it-good to know, espicially since i had to replace a output transistor(+its compliment) on my old zx450, and never saw it -Thanks-
