Too much inward stroke? RSDc 12" 2 ohm..

A while back (Christmas)i had a problem with clicking from my sub. I eventually found that the sub was hitting the tinsel lead connectors!

I bent them down to fix the problem, but i have encountered the problem again! I bent the connectors all the way down now and the problem is completely gone. Im not feeding the sub more than 800w - 900 RMS (hifonics 1606d) (verified via hours and hours of dmm testing and the countless other threads i have made and learned from over the years.)

So i want some professional opinions based off of experience. Why do you think this sub would be doing this? Is it design flaw to have the connectors so high in the first place? Is it because the spider is more loose than it was when i first got it?

To answer some common questions to my question:

It is not being clipped in anyway.
my Sub-sonic is set at 32hz my box is ported at 29hz.
Sub is a Phoenix Gold RSDC 12" 600w RMS rated.

Here are pics of before i bent the leads for the first time, and now just imagine them all the way down i kinked them down.

So, let me hear what you think?

what could be the cause of this?
Is my spider getting weak?!?!? I called PG but they didnt answer, i also sent them an email and i got no reply

Sounds like it may have just been a manufacturer's defect. I would have cut the leads and then soder the wire straight to them

Surely its not just my sub that has long ass connectors?

How well sealed is your enclosure? It is easier to push air out of a small hole than suck it back in. You could be creating a small vacuum in the enclosure sucking in the woofer a little as it plays.

Is upside down the way for ultimate sq. lol. I actually ran my Idmax with the logo sideways for a long time because the box fit better in my truck that way.

Does anyone have a pic of an rsdc for comparison?

i dont have any pics off hand, but i'll be taking mine out of their enclosure sometime this week. if nothing's posted up, i'll be happy to snap a few pics for comparison. just from memory though, i don't remember the leads on my subs looking that long, and i've never had a problem with interference like that. i drive them pretty hard too.

Note that you're giving it 150% of it's rated power in a vented box, which offers less suspension than a sealed one. You're working the sub near the limit of its design.

PG has always had lots of issues with tinsel slap in their older woofers, so I wouldn't be surprised if it happened again. Just bend the bastards back, and it should be fine. Pretty much every Ti sub in existence needed this, but they worked perfectly otherwise.

The polarity is good, i checked it with a battery..

Thanks for the reply's. I was told that the sub was made to be underrated and i have heard of people feeding 1000w to them so i didnt think 800 would hurt.

Yea i bent the bastards down and its all good now, if she dies then ill get another one, im hoping that PG comes out with a new line soon.

I emailed the engineer for PG Stewartm@rodinaudio.com but i never got a response, that was 2 days ago..

Its not a big deal.

For long excursion woofers this can happen from time to time, even with really good manufacturing. You did the right thing, slightly bent it so it doesn't hit the cone. Sometimes there is even foam padding on the lead and cone to avoid this issue.

DO NOT CUT AND RESOLDER.

Make a "C" shape out of the tinsel posts so that you wont have to keep bending them back all of the time weakening the posts.
