The features you are listing would require some amount of proprietary hardware to perform well. Using a good ole sound card and some major math functions can only get you so far.

Keep in mind your argument here, and don’t loose site of it. You are promoting the use of complex processors and systems to increase the performance of a car audio system. These devices are not toys by any means. There is little point in using a toy (a computer sound card) to test them.

If you are on a budget, stick a bit less money into your equipment and stick some more into your test hardware. Or, find the most useful yet still cheap solution for the interim. This may be what you are referring to with this software you speak of.

My suggestion is to give Adobe Audition a try. Connect it to a capable sound card. If you make audio recordings of your stereo, using one channel of the sound card at the output of your deck, and the remaining channel at the output of a microphone, you can then start making input vs output comparisons, and that is a powerful idea.

And the beauty if this is no more test tones. Just play some CDs of your choice. Metal, Rap, it really does not matter. Audition will run an FFT on them and give you a frequency response not based on synthetic test tones, but actual music you listen too.

Actually I wanted this set up for many things, kinda of moved away from this debate we had, since I brought up software. I need a new rta since I sold my old one and really need something that can measure the t/s parameters of speakers for over the summer when I design my home towers. I also want an O-scope to better my level matching, as the DMM isn't cutting it any more. ...Ill just shoot you a PM as we've hijacked the hell out of ITCH thread here.

Yeah, It's nice to be on a forum where people can have a disagreeing point of views without getting nasty and starting the name calling.

Plus some of the rest of us can learn things from your arguments. :D

I don't think will work very well in your ride. Your car is the wrong colour for good audio from these pieces. You should sell them to me instead.
