Looking at your avatar, I am a little worried about what might stick....

In all seriousness though, I do appreciate your throwing out ideas. That's what I made this thread for. I wanted to ask for you guys' opinion on a certain aspect of the 2 or 3 2125s discussion. I am beginning to lean towards using a dedicated 2125 for each sub. Here are my reasons:
  • * More dynamic - in other words, more headspace
    * According to PG literature, the MS-2125 is power supply limited to a maximum attainable output of ~720W.
    * Using one 2125 to drive both IB15s to xMax I would be using ~83% of the amp's maximum output. (600W of 720W)
    * Using two 2125s I will only be using ~42% of the amp's maximum output, (300W of 720W)
    * Adding another 2125 will only add about what? 10 or 12 lbs to the install? I think I can deal with that increase. It'll probably cost me around .10 to .15s in the 1/4.
    * I've managed to come up with 3 ways I could do the 4-amp install so far, so that won't be a problem.
I know there has always been some debate about headspace and it's effectiveness. Especially since these amps will not limit current unless it exceeds 50ms, allowing it to make extra power in these cases. I'm not sure, but I don't think that means it would be able to exceed the limits of it's 720W capable power supply, even for a short peak. Anyone know about this for sure? And even if it can, would I really want it to? What I'm hoping you guys can shed some light on is if you think having this extra "headspace" is going to result in improved sound. Basically, if you had no concern other than the cost of an extra amp, which would not break the budget (I've decided it's time I learn about fiberglass, so that frees up a lot of cash I had earmarked for having it done, not to mention that I budgeted significantly less than I can actually afford), would you add the extra amp?

I would say your fine with that you plan on using
remember these amp are not new and even we have caps going ect.
I would not use the other amp as you might need extra battery bigger alt. = spending alot more $$$$$money$$$$$
you will be very happy with the 2 ms2125 on the 15" ib subs
remember that is a car not a suv you will have tons of bass
I would psend more time and money working on the front speaker mounting them and getting a good mid bass out of them
its great to have low end but you should have a killer high end
I like it loud but not like the kids in high school all you hear is bass and the speaker are all fucked up
good luck :)

I'm not sure if you are in favor of one or two 2125s for sub duty, as you've made arguments for both. I'll assume it's intentional and you're being neutral, giving input on both options.

Keep in mind, for mid-bass I will have a 2125 @ 2 ohms stereo running 4 Image Dynamics 6.5" handling from about 80Hz to 1000Hz and a MS275 running a pair of Image Dynamics CD1PRO HLCDs (Horn-Loaded Compression Driver) handling from 1000Hz on up. The horns have a sensitivity of around 105db 1w/1m, so I will have a TON of output available there, and the mid-bass stage should be pretty beefy with four 6.5" getting over 125W each. (these 6.5" play low very well making them excellent mid-bass performers) I am definitely not neglecting my mids and highs. I'll probably only be using 1/3 of the MS275's output at most, as anything more than that would likely make me deaf in short order.

So, given what I have for the rest of the system, the sub stage is unlikely to be too overpowering under any circumstance given the gear I am using. I know a single 2125 has enough output to hit xMax on the IB15s, but it'll have to be working really hard to do it. If I give each sub it's own 2125, they are under much less stress, allowing them to handle the musical peaks much more easily. Also, the fact that I won't be maxxing out one of my 2125s if I use one for each sub gives me more peace of mind too.

I was already expecting to at least replace the battery. ($200) I'll probably need to do the alt at some point too, as my stock alt is 130A. Still, that's pretty good output for stock. If I have to, I already have a chromed HO alt picked out, available up to 250A. Spendy though, something like $350-450, depending. Ultimately, what I intend to do with the charging system is take a wait and see approach. I'll upgrade it as much as needs to be done once I have it all running and see exactly what I need in practice, rather than in theory.

Thanks for the input, prompting me to think on some other aspects of this,
Brad

On thinking about 3 MS-2125 installs, how does this idea sound: The three 2125s across the bottom of the trunk like so:

****** ****** ******
****** ****** ******
****** ****** ******
****** ****** ******
****** ****** ******
****** ****** ******

The outside two mounted heatsink facing up, but the middle one mounted PCB facing up. The 275 would have to end up on the side wall most likely. I'm not sure I'd like the look of all three being PCB up, as one of my favorite things about MS amps is that beautiful white heatsink. I also would kind of like to keep the side wall available for future expansion, such as an MS-8 when they become available. Really, I'm not sure I'd even like this idea, but I figured I'd bounce it off you guys and see what opinions are.

Another idea that allows me to get the 275 onto the trunk floor as well:
********** ***** OOOO
********** ***** OOOO
********** ***** OOOO
********** *****

********** **********
********** **********
********** **********
********** **********

Mounted all either up or down, the O's next to the 275 would be a logo, thinking of PG swoosh back-lit with blue LEDs. Actually, I really like the idea of the back-lit swoosh. I'll have to come up with a way to integrate that is whatever install I end up deciding on.

This week, I am gonna try and get the mold of the trunk floor made up in fiberglass, so I can take it home and have something physical in-hand actually put the amps in and see how it looks. (I keep the Grand National in the fully enclosed parking garage at work, since I live in an apartment)

Ok, here's another layout I've worked up with the 3rd 2125 and a Powercore. :) Let me know what you guys think.

Alternatively you could put the MS275 opposite the powercore.

You might want to put the amps side to side to increase the shock value a bit.

But yeah, looks good.

Actually no I just meant squeeze them in horizontally, but that is a good idea now that you mention it :)

It would look like two MS1000's and a SOFAS.

If you took off the endplates you can make it totally flush.

I just discovered that i have too much time here in America to spend thinking of installs

What about building a tunnel out of the 3 MS2125 facing the plexis to the inside with a mirror at the back?

Like the pic´s below!
