input voltage

ok guys heres another dumb one i have for u. I know gains on amps are used for matching the input voltage on the amp to the output voltage off the HU. So what if the output voltage on the deviece is greater than what the amp accepts. Say my HU, EQ, or/and etc is an outpu t of 8vrms and the amps gain will only go from .2v-4v even/or 6v. what would happen to the amp. also if i have the capabilities to balance the output of the HU to something then going in to the amp/s would it make a difference to my ear or/and for SQ thanx in advance for any responses

it really depends on the amp.
MOST amps will really welcome the higher input voltage. its like putting higher octane gas in your car.
most stock or low end motors wont notice the difference.
tuned motors will respond well!
go too high and it will burn your moter up!
looks like you are using ms and m amps...
might consult someone with more experience then i with those.

I've heard of people using more than 2V input with M series amps but you certainly don't *need* more than 2V for the amps to make rated power at anything more than 12V. My M44 and M100 certainly don't need more than 2V to make power.
The later generation MS amps will easily take 5V I hear.
