I am looking for opinion/advice. I am going to be running 3 JL Audio 8W6's and was considering throwing in a JL Audio 12W6, to go deep. I have always ran same size subs, as I am sure you guys are as well. Although I have put 8's in front and rear doors before. Anyways I have a M100 and a M44 to run the system, think I should though an M50 in the mix to hit the 12?

For that kind of set-up I would run the 8'' subs in bandpass...for super punchy midbass....and have the 12'' sub x-over'd right where the 8's stopped playing.....should make for a very clean sound....just my thoughts

think I would need more amp? Just running separates and coaxials up front.

Depending on your set-up and the amps you have.....a 4 channel amp would take care of the mids and tweets.....and then you would need a 2 channel amp for the 8's and another amp for the 12....I don't know what you have or if you want to spend any money or what the deal is....just offering a suggestion

I don't recommend mixing multiple sizes/types/brands of subs. Mix and match will often yield lots of cancellation, peaky response, etc. Not to mention, if you want to run midbass, you should be doing it up front, where the stereo separation is audible. Running lots of midbass in the rear only drags your stage towards the trunk.
Have you considered porting your 8's? You should be able to get a lot more low octave bass out of them that way.

I don't remember that I ever said to put the 8's in the rear.....I made a suggestion on how they could be ran......and if the 8's were in the front close to the 6's....that is still what I would do....cancellation should not be a problem if they are run between 120-700Hz and the sub is ran below that...I didn't mean for him to throw all the subs in 1 box and start playing on them....I was talking about the 8's going up front and the 12 in the back....that is why I suggested running them as midbass speakers

no worries man...didn't mean to debunk what you were sayin...
running 8's for midbass in the front (if you have space) is something I'd love to do for an install at some point... maybe if I get a tahoe this summer....

Put the 8's in the front floor if your not chicken

seen it way back in some IASCA installs and the image and blending was to be top notch

Had a Cyclone and various other sub combo's. USually with the clone in I'd gain about 3 or 4 db.
12w7, RE XXX, Fi btl.

IIRC, Cojones was a fan of mix and match, clones and TI's?

Ya, never run different size subs in the same freq range. They will just fight each other and will likely yield less output then either of them separately. If you use them in different freq ranges like Randy suggests, that would work, only in the rear, they will not do much for ur staging.
Anyone remember Wayne Harris' original comp vehicle?
haha had 18's for lows and 12's for midbass. lol It was awesome tonally and freggin loud at full range! I have not heard anything close since.

a clone needed a sub to fill in the range that it couldn't.

if i ran subs in different boxes and different amps, would you recommend I regulate the hz of each sub through my amps or put inline caps?

it can be done but takes some carefull planning and good tuning. It isn't as easy as it sounds to make it perform well.
