I haven't heard enough different subs to absolutely judge this, unfortunately.

But I do know that without a good box, even the best subs won't perform well. A box has a lot to do with it, but so does the driver, I don't think you can slap a number like 75% on how much either components plays a role in SQ.

If by SQ you mean flat like a ruler frequency response, the range in question becomes important.

I *love* the RSdC. Again, I haven't heard many of the boutique brands. It may not be the ultimate SQ sub, it does sound fantastic, however.

Ive heard cheap subs do amazing things in great boxes and great subs sound like ass in crappy boxes. Ive heard ported boxes sound as clean as sealed. Ive even seen a sealed box that was as loud as a ported box..

But yeah. As long as the sub isnt garbage the box makes all the difference

I run TREO SSi's for a reason.

The best SQ I've heard and when ordered to "get down", they will.
"ZPA's will have the same sound essentially as you get from the MS, they just feature a bigger shinier set of balls."

There's some guy trying to sell a 15" Focal with the sexy red double stacked magnets over in classifieds, you might want to look into that one. Not that I'm biased or anything.

I have found it really depends on what a particular person likes. The RE SR and the JLW6 are very clinical and accurate, but for me it's too clinical, where as the RE XXX is really my cup of tea. It plays anything you can throw at it so damn well. Even when it's up very loud and moving a lot, it can still play the fastest drum beats and just stop with no overhang at all. As for the bottom end on, it's just awesome, even in a .8cuft gross box it still played lower than any other ported 12 I've used.

I suspect when I finally get round to putting the Ascendant Audio Chaos in it will give me the same smile.

I've listened to some Rainbows and Focals, both of which were nice but after the XXX they did seem to be lacking. As for DD, for some reason because they used to make studio drivers everyone that owed them said how good they sounded. I didn't hear one that was close to nice, loud yes, but good no.

I allways liked the A/D/S subs for accurate reproduction but haven,t bought any since they sold out so I,m not sure if there still as good but Iv,e seen some n.o.s on the bay from time to time at good deals worth checking out, just keep in mind any sub will only sound as good as the source and other equipment ahead of it includeing the wires

I have herd JLW6 and Eclipse sw8200 in sealed boxes both sound nice.
The Eclipse sounds cleaner and has louder bottom end but requires a large box. They have the ability to get loud and handle more than their rated power. Last time i checked the sw8200 were bout $300 on ebay last year.

Morel Ultimo 12 .. retail price is $800.00 USD
I've heard things with this sub I never heard with any before.

Eclipse Aluminum 12 (not titanium) ... retail was $400 originally
Truely a low end beast.

Image Dynamics IDmax12 .. retail $ ???
Never carried these but was very impressed with allot of comp cars I heard that used them.

JL Original 12W6 ... retailed (back then) $350ish
It would be tough to find one of these still in good shape. But if you find em, snatch em up!

Those are the ones that stand out in my head as far as those I've heard and or used. I hear good things about the Velodyns but never experienced them myself
