Phoenix Gold Phorum

Ok guys sorry to bug ya'll but here my question? I have a 10volt signal going to either a phoenix gold bass cube or a soundstream BX12 bass enhancer or an audiocontrol epicbass center then to a phoenix gold ZX200 amp bridged @ 2ohms for the sub that I wanna purchase which one would be better for the buck. A) a phoenix gold RSdC124 12" for $124 or B) image dynamics IDQ2V2.D4 (last years version) 12" for $149 and either one will be built to a spec ported box. I really need ya'lls help cause no around here has either subs and no dealer in 75 sq miles sells them. So I cant hear them at all. PLEASE HELP ME I want the best of both worlds SQ and SPL but more accurate and tight bass.

If your not getting a IDMAX....I would just buy the RSDC


The RSDC's will get way louder than the IDQ's as well.

I thought the IDQ's were for sq and the IDMAX's are for SPL

The IDQ's are more sq based. The IDMax is designed for more output. From what I hear from the phamily, the rsdc's are no joke. And I think you will make use of the rsdc's efficiency. I would be torn between the two myself if I didnt have a max. I am still itching to hear an rsdc

Tom prefers the RSdC over the IDMAX... and I tend to agree. But it's been a while since I've heard the IDMAX and never on a ton of power.

i just had a conversation with errin about the idmax's he had in his gti VS my rsdc.


he votes for the rsdc too. the idmax 15's he had obviously had more impact, but the rsdc is just so fast and low.


i havn't heard a ton of non pg subs...so my opionion isnt worth a whole lot.

but i can't imagine a better sounding sub. no matter what i listen to i never find myself wishing it to sound any different, louder, faster, cleaner. i just can't comprehend what a better sub could sound like

I felt I may have been harsh....that was after I just woke up....and I laid a fence yesterday on 3 hours of sleep....I was a little grumpy.....I still think the RSDC rocks out....but it just doesn't have enough output for me.....I think that is why I turn away from it.....it pumps out every note without missing a beat.....but I just need more than what it has to offer....and I like to see certain things in a sub or I really don't even give it a chance.....I might be quick to judge

waynehead I was torn between the 2 myself but I decided on the PG RSdC124 cause of all the buzz I hear about it and im a huge PG fan Ive never had any problems with there products and they are always made at least twice as good as any other brand Ive had or heard except that Hi Fi stuff.

So anyways guys my sub will be here on tues or wed Im so excited I hope it as clean as my G5 but as hard and loud as the type R's I had.

Itll be a while before I have all my new gear in my truck cause Ive been getting all new pieces every week. So I got into this phaze where I want a rediculously amount of loud SQL. yes I said SQL and not SQ. But Im completely qutting my truck and redoing everything from the head unit to the subs. Basically itll be a Kendwood exceleron HU w/ DSP & DTA why im using it, then 2 kicker KQ30 eq's band w/9v linedriver's one for front and one for rear caponents and a soundstream BX-15 bass enhancher w/ 13v line driver. Then a 4-way x-over (havent decided what yet), then to a ms-275 for mid-range and a mq-430 for the highs and a ZX200 @ 2ohms bridged for the sub and then later ill use the zx200 for midbasses Ill get later and hopefully get a ms-2250 for the sub later. Ill post all my pics as I progress w/ it for yall. I know its not as good as some of yalls but itll be my best so far. also everything will be factory intergraded and custom in the back w all the amps and processors.

I definitely preferred my RSDC to my IDMax. I haven't heard an IDQ on the other hand, and I have always wanted to try one out! I would be all over one of the new ones, but they are just so damn expensive, and it is hard to justify when I like the RSDC so much. Not to mention without eBay or any local dealers, there's very few places I can get them, besides used on forums.

The IDMax was a total beast on deep bass, but the RSDC is VERY close to it in low end accuracy and volume. On the other hand, my IDMax had issues playing above 50-60Hz, and got boomier as the frequency increased. It never seemed to blend well with my front stage, which admittedly lacks midbass. The RSDC on the other hand is right at home in this region, with tight, accurate, musical bass, and blends amazingly well in a wide range of setups. Also, the Max seemed to lag behind my music by a few milliseconds, regardless of how I set the phase... I would need time alignment to really be satisfied with it.

What I really like about the RSDC is that it doesn't excel at any one thing in particular, but it does everything in a very balanced fashion. From high to low bass, it's loud and quick, but not aggressively punchy. It can play several notes at a time without mashing them into a muddy boom. Bass guitar and kick drums are very distinguished and natural sounding.

Randy, I believe you have only heard the RSDC 10's right? I wasn't nearly as impressed with the 10 vs the 12 in my car. It was even more accurate, but it just lacked that raw shake-your-car-to-bits power that the 12 has. If you want volume, I don't think you would be disappointed with a 12", especially not compared to an IDMax.

Yes....only heard the 10's....but they were slot ported...so the feel, I imagine to be more like the 12....I would have to hear the 12 in a tuned ported box and a sealed box to make a fair decision....I REALLY did enjoy the IDMAX though....I love my RE XXX....it's just so damn heavy....and with all my MS amps...it just won't do...it would be way too much weight...the IDQ's I hear are great....but, for me...not enough....I need 1 sub to pack it's lunch and come to work for me.....I would like to see PG make a RSDC 15....or maybe a Elite run of the RSDC's


I would also like to see PG do some Neo. magnet subs and speakers....I lean more towards those now...b/c they can still handle the power, but don't take up the room.

Comparing the 10 vs 12, sealed vs sealed in my car, I could see how you would think a single 10 would be too quiet. I have never tried them ported however. The 12 is easily as loud as the best subs i've put in my car. It seems to be very efficient and does a lot with the paltry 250 watts I am feeding it.

The only setup i've had louder than my single RSDC 12" was dual Xmax 12's. Those things are very efficient and pack a hard, aggressive punch on high bass notes. Unfortunately they were too boomy on lower bass for my tastes, as I listen to a wide degree of eclectic music. If I only listened to rock/metal, the Xmax would be tough to beat.

It seemed to be louder overall than the IDMax, or even a pair of the plain RSD 12's.

I, like Randy, like having one sub working for me. The Idmax does need some serious midbass to make it sound controlled. It helps to have the sub as close as possibe and facing forwards. I think two rsdc's would own it tho from what I hear here. I also think the Idmax sounds better with alot of power. It does make sound with very little wattage but it likes-a-da-watts.
