Phoenix Gold Phorum

I have a MS-2125 which is mint (has never seen 4 hours of power!), yet it is 10 years old. It has been kept in dry storage with the exception of
those previously mentioned hours. I know that time and usage dictates
capacitor replacement, but does only time? What I mean is: does the fact that this amp is 10-years old but hardly used necessitate that the capacitors be replaced? I am finally about to do something with it, so I figured that I better ask the pros. Also, under the same conditions, what else should I check into replacing? I didn't have any kind of problem with
this amp, but neither do I WANT to!

Now most of us (who dont know better) will say hey what the heck it's new....why would they be bad. But most of us who have a bit more knowledge about this will tell you to replace them.
Why? Because they will still go bad. Just like any battery. Go buy a pack of duracel batteries and then in like 15 years see if they are corroding or leaking etc. Been there done that myself....how bout the last time you used your flashlights say a 5 or 10 years ago..or more, and you REMEMBER they were bright as day, and then you have not had to use them till yesterday the power went out and all was dark....well gee I remember where the flashlight is....go out to get it and it doesn't work......what happened? Well go open it up and the batteries are corroded and leaking...

So anyway, caps are very similar to batteries....so.....I'd suggest replacing....better to be safe than sorry.

Yes...hehe....I sleep .....I got a tiny bit of a sleeping disorder (I believe...)
I am able to stay awake most hours...but when I am driving...I tend to fall asleep....I dont understand why...even if I get a good night's sleep...6-8+ hours....I stilll will want to fall asleep.
Crazy.... I should get checked out before I realllllyyyy fall asleep. I just doze for a few seconds...and such...
Of course it is worse when I dont get a good nights sleep.

While heat will make them age quicker, we have still seen BNIB amps go up in smoke due to leaking caps. At the very least I would recommend slipping litmus paper or similar under each cap just to see if there's any electrolyte. If you get any fluid at all, take it apart before turning it on.
