Planning system upgrade w/ PG components, please share feedb

Car: Toyota Camry 2004, 4banger

Current:

Deck: Alpine CDA 9856
Amp: JL 500/1
Sub: PG RSD 12" Sealed

Planning:

Front: PG RSD65cs
Rear: PG RSd 690
Amp: V754 - Phoenix Gold Ryval 1000 Watt 4-Channel Amplifier

So above I listed what I already have, and then what I plan on getting. I know its a big "taboo" to have any kind of rear fill (at least after a lot of forum reading), but rear fill is important to me as I usually have a lot of passengers, and just personal preference.

With that said, how are the RSD690? Are they adequate for rear fill as 2way setup? I could find reviews on the 65cs but not really 690, so please let me know whats up. What should i put in the back, is the 690 fine? or another pair of 65cs in the back?

Also the amp, any suggestions on the amp? I'm not looking on spending more then 200 (shipped) on the amp. Any thoughts on that amp?

I have 2 weeks off from school, so looking to make a purchase by tomorrow night, get it shipped and installed within these next 2 weeks.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

I would suggest another pair of the 65cs's in the rear, instead of 6x9's

Teamradrz1 has a very nice black ZX450v.2 that could run your whole system and has all the x-over features you could want or need for the future.....his price is right what you are looking to spend, and I would highly recommend getting it. It would be a better choice than the Ryval...In my opinion.

Here is the owner's manual on the ZX450

I agree with dbincognito.... the ZX450 is a much better choice!

Hi,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

The specs of the manual says that at 12.5 Volts its 18x4 RMS, and at 14.4V its 75x4.

I have a stock wiring system, alternator and all that.

So realistically, how much RMS would I be seeing?

At any of the voltages, this amp would be sufficient for the RSD components, or do i have to make a lot of electrical upgrades just to be able to use this amp?

About another pair of 650cs in the back, (My back fits either 6x9, or 6.5" both requiring an adapter), are there any reasons for that? Just the speaker sounds better?

Would i just mount the back with something like this?

http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_inf ... cts_id=467

I'm NOT looking to cut up anything or do any custom installs (don't have the EXP for that kind of labor and don't wanna mess up my car

Thanks,

-Vinh

Realistically, that amp has way more than enough power to kill those RSD comps....I have personally heard the ZX450 on the comps and it goes SUPER LOUD without clipping at all......the ZX amps have mega headroom, there is more to look at than just power ratings.....the ZX amp also has the built in cooling fan, and personally I think it just looks better. Running this amp is as simple as running 4 gauge wire to it and installing a fuse.

Those speaker adapters look to work just fine....a simple 6x9 to 6.5" plate adapter works fine.....round speakers are more linear and have better SQ

You could also take all the mids in your system and run them off the rear channels and run all the tweeters on the front channels at 2 ohms and this would give you more power, you would be able to fully seperate the mids from the tweeters without using the RSD x-over....and it allows you to quickly adjust how much treble or bass you want by simply fading your stereo from the front ( more tweeter )...to the rear ( more mid )

Bingo, thats what i was hoping to hear.
I have an OLD Alpine MRP-F200 laying around, someone just gave it to me cuz they didn't want it (it still works)

I'm guessing, comparing the ZX to the alpine, is like david (alpine) and goliath (PG).

But remember, David beat Goliath.

The only review I saw of a ZX450 was that of the Reactors side. It did 111 wrms x 4 @ 4 ohms at 14v.

The ZX over the Rival ANY day. And that's not because I have one.

It looks like the person in question may have sold the amp already (boo)

So what other suggestions? I tried a quick google search for that amp, and most FS posts are years old...

Oh, and it doesn't have to be PG amp, it just has to be quality + under $200.

Thanks fellas,

That is also a very good amp...the RSD line seems to be very popular as of late, and will produce it's rated power. 8)

hey,

So i ordered the 300.4

What amp kit (gauge) do you think i will need for this amp?

any particular brand of wires are good? I currently use knuconcepts in my car for the subwoofer

I use nothing but KnuKonceptz for all of my wiring and wiring accessories.

knu is great. cant go wrong

ok cool looks like ill get another pack of knu then. is 8 gauge plenty?

what exactly is the difference between these 2 items (picture looks the same)

Complete 8 Gauge Amplifier Installation Kit
Item #: KOL-AK8

Complete 8 Gauge 4 Channel Amplifier Installation Kit
Item #: KOLAK84

yes...but dont get the knu klm 8awg kit for that amp. it uses copper clad aluminum which will put it right at the edge of that amps current draw.

buy the kolossus flex in bulk or go with the klm 4awg kit, or komplete 8awg kit

so whats the difference between komplete 8awg and komplete 4 channel amp 8awg

more speaker wire?

Buy by the foot, don't go with a kit......the difference between the two sets is a little more speaker wire, and 4 channel RCA's with the 4 channel kit

The way to go if you want 8 gauge....use the Kolossus Kable...it's on sale, and WAY better cable anyway

Then you can buy your speaker wire by the foot, get the Krystal RCA's....and some of their awesome distrubution blocks that come with fuses....and you are set

do i really need a distrubution block?

Heres my setup

Jl 500/1 with 4 gauge power/ground wire (knuconceptz kit)

If i get a distrubution block

i would need to get one that can accept bigger, thicker wire,

ie 1 or 0 gauge, and then connect that to the distru block

and output 1 to the 4 gauge for the jl, and the other 8 gauge for the 300.4

is that right?

what about fuses? ONLY the distru block needs a fuse, or where would i place the fuse?

Out of all those distru blocks, which one do you recommend for my setup (i only have 2 amps and do not plan on getting anymore ever)

no, you totally dont need a block. just get the 8awg with an inline fuse holder and call it a day

The krystal kables have a Teflon jacket, the RCA's that come in the kit do not

Kolossus Kable has more strands of wire than any of the other cable does, it is also tin coated so it will never oxidize
