i am looking for a successor for my dying ti elites.

the pg rsdc ever coming out seems slim to none..

ultimately i would go hertz...but they are crazy expensive. trying to keep the budget at no more then 300.

i have serious hookups for jl and focal...not the biggest fans, but should be decent still

so trying to decide between

i know exile is working on a new xtec speaker also. the current one just wont cut it though. and the xpe doesn't have the presence i need. plus after seeing how my Elites deteriorated i want to stay away from a neo magnet. i am pretty hard on my speakers

i have a set of RSD's, but the gap at 200hz and tonal balance compared of the elites puts them out of contention

the amp for the future set is a xenon 200.2

Actually the MSRP on the Ultra set was $499 IIRC so I gues they are out. They do have great midbass though!

Another thought, don't you have another Xenon 100.4 or Xenon 200.2? Why not try an active set up and buy some DIY drivers?

how did you you would say that.

i did just aquire a x100.4...but swapping it out at this point would be a PAIN

i think im gonna stick with passive's whichever route i take.

also...the RETAIL of 499 doesnt mean they cant be found cheaper...they could be a contender

I really like the set, the tweet is a little bright but that can be dealt with. If you are seriously interested let me know. I'll get you in touch with the right people.

Briiannn .. Focal .. a French product? Really

Honestly tho, I found the kevlars to be nicer then the Utopias in some aspects. Much better low mid punch then the Utopia's. And I personally loved their tweeters. I hated the day Focal gave the line to Tweeter stores. I had a Tweeter store 1 block down the street from me that kinda forced me to look at an other high-end brand. That's the main reason we switched to Morel. As for metal tweeters and any perceived 'harshness' just because they are metal is hogwash. RTA a set of silk domes against a set of those tweeters and it is very revealing. Most silk domes have a natural tendency to start dropping off around 16kHz. Those Focals will play straight out to 30k+ ! (not that we can hear that high a freq) To me that just means more accurate. And it may be that most people are not used to hearing so much more detail and equate it to being harsh. Plus, like tibbs mentioned, if it's too much you can cut them back. As apposed to boosting a silk dome to make it do the same. There's definately nothing like the realism of a cymbal on a metal tweeter.

To give you an idea, I had 3 IASCA World Champs the first year we started carrying Focal. Compared to 3 the previous 5 yrs. And those Kevlars were in each of those vehicles.

i know FRENCH! dammit

i also noticed the kevlars tweeters use a ploy-glass-ish dome (similer to old PG XS drivers) and not metal dome

also, if cost is coming into the equation, dont let it. i get the JL drivers 62points off list

Why don't you just go listen to both of them and pick which one YOU think sounds best? :P

I would keep the Elites though. I'm sure you can find another set of mids ;)

Ebay has the 5 1/4 and the 6 1/2 Elite mids.

6 1/2

I went Focal as well. I've heard both Focal and JL and I prefer the Focals 7 to 1 in and odds match.

Between the two listed definetly the focal. I loved my 2 sets of focals I have used (165 V1 & the K2Ps). The tweeter to me is a little bright but very easy to adjust to my liking via eq in the headunit. The held up well...and I am a rough on my components.

I currently run Diamond Hex S600A. They lack in the midbass by comparison to the Focals. Still pleased with them...esp for the price.

Weird? They were always metal, titanium. TN52 i think was the tweeter model number. That site seems to be down at the moment. I'll try again later. Maybe they changed em?

thats what i thought too!

from their text
6 1/2 " (165mm) 2 way kit, high precision separate crossover with tweeter and midrange adjustment.

Woven aramid fiber tweeter for optimum coherence.

The optimum standard that combines easy installation and bass quality.
