Hey guys,
I've been thinking about the amps I have that I'm not using. If they do not get used do the caps become bad? do they always need to be replaced at a certain point? the reason I'm asking this is because If I'm gonna have to perform surgery on these at some point i might as well sell them so someone can use them. I have a Reactor that I do not know how many hrs. it has been used, a RF Punch 800a2 never seen power BNIB, a Crossfire BMF1000D and a TEK 50.4 that were in a demo car so very little use(under 50 hrs for sure), and a 450ZX that was used by me for 5 years. wondering what the deal would be? I've read that it's always a good idea for longetivity's sake but is it always necessary? I think someone had likened it too battery's sitting in a drawer and they eventually leak at some point.
thx

there is some truth to that... absolutely... and i think the point the well observed with the caps me and two others were involved with and realized that they were all leaky from just having sat around.
and even the smaller caps like in amp will/can leak, and piss out & cause problems just from time / just from sitting around... absolulte!

The way I understand it, all electrolytic caps will start to leak with age. They do not have an infinite lifespan regardless of use. I think someone told me that if an amp is 10 years old, whether it's been used or not, you had better be looking at the caps pretty close.
You wouldn't want to have a fire the first time you power one of those beauties....

On the Reactor you would have to ask Tristan but I only used the zx500 side for about a month or 2 in total
funny thing about limited amps they spend most of there time as art not being used
