FRANKED & OTHER PC SAMPLES> 5th RUN> EQ & D-BL

Post by mhyde71 »

OKAY GUYS! I think i am in the right direction for getting the exact ratio/color/etc for making/dupe'ing the frank paint color....

BEFORE PASSING JUDGEMENT please note:

1) this is my first go'round with trying to do the franked PC and yes I know that the concentration was too high for the blue and pink.. I am making second round this afternoon- but wanted to give you guys something to look at for starters...
2) I do not have the size of oven I would like and can only do small items... (larger oven is in the works though) which a larger oven will allow me to (obviously) do larger items, sinks/covers/etc...
3) THE END PLATE SHOWN- That is OEM, and what I am working off of for/as a "template"
4) THE LAST PIC, I think out of the 1st run was/is the closest... just needs maybe a little more black

BUT I AM Heading in right direction, I think a few more shots at trying to get the exact (close enough too exact) ratio of blue and pink flakes and the right black etc... should have it figured/worked up by this afternoon... if I do not get distracted trying/fooling with other colors I have...

(@DDD- CANDY RED SAMPLES AS SOON AS IT COMES IN- BEEN ORDERED JUST WAITING)

HERE ARE SOME OTHER SAMPLES OF OTHER PC WORK I DID YESTERDAY...

I like the gold vein, not so so thrilled about the gold matte, but hey it was a sample shooting and came out pretty good if you ask me!

OKAY OKAY
I know this is not (as promised) my 2nd run to attempt to achieve the FAS PC Color scheme... BUT I was toying around with some other colors I have... here is a taste of what I did last night... more to come later this evening (providing things go smoothly with my car  )...

in the pictures it may not look like it, but I can fit up to and including a 21xx sink in the oven i got. so only stuff that is 2125/2250 or smaller.

thanks guys! i am a PC'ing fool now these days... pulling off my electrical plates to powder coat, spoons, and all kinds of shit... helps with going through the motions and trying to learn new technics, or just to work through the learning curve... so far what I have done I am very pleased with - and I am fairly retentive when it comes to stuff like this...(but always there is room for improvement - i say)

NEXT UP (in short bit), I am going to take casing off a couple PG alternators I have and powder coat them... if anyone is interested in a PG alternator and providing the one's I have will work for your car, let me know what color you want and I can make it happen...

I really wanted to powder coat the wheels on my 4Runner a year ago or so... but then I cheaped the hell out and just cleaned, primed and spayed them and surprisingly it's holding up pretty well. Still kind of wish I powder coated them for looks and durability... oh well.

Damn nice work, Matt. We have some truly dedicated folks here... building amps, refinishing amps, powder coating, new plexis, way to go guys!

that is the shit....very nice work...I love the color shifts in the light. I've airbrushed a few lexan rc car bodies with hoc shifting paints...they r bad ass out running in the light.

I am impressed....so have you just done steel thus far...think you could do an aluminum m50 shroud and backplate with the stuff you got? You can pc aluminum can't you?

in fact I have done steel and aluminum, mostly aluminum..
the 275 sink most recently shown is aluminum,
M50 stuff no problem, I can do up to a m100/44 no prob (i think so anyways) but definitely m25/50 no sweat!

was the shroud you have for the m50 custom made for you?? i ask becasue all tha shrouds I am aware of are steel for the m-series gear... but could be wrong, i only had an m100 & an m44 shroud and those were both steel...

I have all the solvents and strippers and phosphates and shit to do any / all the above (al, brass, steel, etc...) no sweat...

if you guys search out a color or scheme you fancy let me know I can look into getting it for stuff that you might like to have done.

check columbiacoatings.com or tigerdrylac.com for all kinds of various PC powder (translucents, metallics, flake/glitter stuff, etc...) and I can shoot any of it single or two stage applications no problem!

Yeah, that is lookin' really good Matt. Any pointers for other DIYers? Where to get PC and where you got the gun? I have often toyed with the idea of buying the cheap Harbor Freight gun and giving it a try, but getting permission to use the wife's oven, and finding time to experiment has been the stumbling blocks for me.

OKAY BOYZ /;\ & GURLZ /0\ got the 275 completed last night (no i0net at home until the 10th) so it will be spotty until then... SILLY RABBIT TRIX ARE FOR KIDS, BUT HERE SHE IS!!!!

A couple few minor flaws (i.e. a drip looking line, bubbled up on spot) all of which will be overcome whence I learn the ins/outs of get over my learning curve... i.e. learning more about the control of air flow, which nozzles to use for which applications, etc... BUT pleased as pleased can be for first full amp under belt now!!!

tried my best to get good vid to show just how wonderfull it looks, but dont think vids do it any justice, really.!!.

what's more- with this pc powder, you look at it head on, it's black- you look at it at an angle it blows up with color- kinda neat for those who just think black amps are sexy (tom), step to the side and it is a rainbow of fruity flavors!!!

this amp i did two coats of black, i think next time just one and see how it looks after just doing one coat of black (and always a top clear gloss coat) which the top clears add gloss and protective qualities to the PC job....

OH AND EXCUSE MY FINGER PRINTS ON THE AMP- I need to get some latex joints

that is cool looking. I assume it would be possible to wetsand the clear and try to get rid of alot of the orange peel and I wonder if that would look even better?

Do you have a link to the pc system that you are using?
