I got a pleasant surprise from mailman today from Jason (Jacampb2).
When i received it, it was raw aluminum, but I decided to paint it satin black. I will eventually have it powdercoated but I dont feel like spending a lot of cash for such a small batch right now.
I'm glad you like it It came out much better than I thought it was going to! Many thanks to you for being patient with me and letting me have your gear for so long for measurements!
Later,
Jason

wow...looks freaking sweet...so have you back lit that plexi yet to see how she looks yet,,,I've been very impressed with the engraving and light thus far...great job jason
I'll let Vin speak for himself more later, but the primary reason I wanted to roll with this design is that it would lend itself well to edge lighting.
It allowed me to put a .25" thick piece of plexi on the back of the MS amps. The aluminum trim/surround is .125", the same thickness as the factory plexi, and factory steel back. The plexi has a .125" counter sunk clearanced .5" wide lip around it. This allowed it to flush mount in the trim ring. .25" plexi is really only about .21" thick, this means the plexi only protrudes into the amp .085"s. It can easily be edge lit by cold cathode tubes mounted under the aluminum trim ring. This would hide the light source, and still make it pop. If we were to have done a whole plexi back out of .25" plexi it would have stood above the flange on the HS, and would have had no place to put the lights.
What I understand from talking to Vin about the project is that he does not intend to edge light these, preferring the more subtle illumination from the leds in the amps. I for one like the "flashier" installs, but I understand the desire for the subtle look as well. I think either way it is going to look pretty good. Just back lighting the plexi will not make the logo pop quite as much, but it has a similar effect in that the engraving will still tend to pick up the light more than the clear plexi.

Yes, Jason is right, I dont intend to edge light these. In fact I dont even have anymore MS amps in my cars
As far as depth issues, the plexi clears the power supply caps perfectly (the tallest part in these amps). Im using the caps that Eric is using in his cap replacement tutorial. IIRC these are about the tallest caps that you can fit inside an MS amp w/o leaving off the bottom plate.
I think it would awesome when they are powdercoated to match the amp...white would look sick!
If PG remade MS amps, I can totally see them doing something like this.
