Hi everybody! I'm new to the form and I'd like some help setting up my new phoenix gold system.

2X 12" RSDC 2 OHM DVC
2X V8001

I'm making a custom box for the back of my suv. Should I go with a sealed or ported box? Should I use the square footage that the PG manual says? which way should the subs face? I heard facing the hatch is best.

If you guys need more info please let me know. I don't know that much about car stereo's yet but I'm willing to learn...

Thanks!

what kind of music do listen to? What are you wanting out of the system? Sound quality or sound pressure level?

I have alway like sealed boxes. I had a girl friend (years ago) with a suv 2 jl 10 sealed firing back and it was very clean and loud.
Your subs will make some good noise sealed or ported..
if you want a smaller box go sealed..

I usually listen to rap, sometimes techno or rock. I want a decent sound quality but I'm more interested in SPL.

thanks for the info knightrider. I took a look at the box you made and I've got a couple questions.

First off my rear space that I have to work with:
38.5" wide
15" tall
24" deep

would a box that is about twice as deep as the box you made work for my setup? what is that extra pice of wood you put on the inside of the box that is connected to the port for? will my port have to be doulble the size of your port?

it extends my port for a low freq tune of the box. U should be good with jus going twice a deep as my box now remember though ok u need to seperate the chambers between the subs and also each sub needs to have their own port in each chamber and also get a plunge router and round off the inside port wall and the outside where u will see the port when the box is complete it will dramatically reduce port noise and then buy a poly fill lining from walmart in the arts and crafts area and line all the inside walls of the box and also do a little bracing on the inside of the box to reduce flexing of the walls of the box if you have anymore questions jus ask man and welcome to the forum also we all here will wanna see pics of ur install

Thanks for the input guys. I've done some messing around with the box designer but I can't figure out how to use it properly. i have downloaded AJvented and box-port designer II.
But my idea for dimensions for half the box (1 sub) are:

16.5" wide, 13" tall, 20.5" deep internal dimensions. this should give me a volume of 2.54 cubic feet.

port dimensions are 2" wide, 13" tall, 15" deep giving a volume of .225 cubic feet

giving 2.32 cubic feet for the sub to use

I based these calculations off the box that knightrider358 designed.

Is this calculated properly? When you tune a sub is the resulting frequency based on internal volume of the port? would a port that is twice the width and half the depth give a different result?
