Phoenix Gold Phorum

Hi everyone, I have been checking out your phorums for a while and finally registered so I could ask my questions.

I currently have 2 old PG Xmax's and am looking at an Exile Xi2500.1 to run them.. My current setup is 2 Xmax 10's in a bandpass box being powered by a Kenwood KAC 929.. I am currently not satisfied with the sound I am getting and was pricing out new amps.. I had a friend that used to sell the old PG stuff (Audio Concepts) talk to Exile and they told him that the Xi2500.1 would be a great match to my subs..

My first question is this.. I cannot find any information on these subs anywhere.. I know they are 4Ohm single voice coil subs.. My previously mentioned friend told me that they are around 900 RMS each with a peak of 1500-1800.. But for all I know he could be blowing smoke up my butt.. Does anyone know the specs on these subs or a link where I could read up on them?

My second question is this, what do you recommend for a suitable box for the setup I am looking at? I am looking at entering a sound comp with what I am building and am looking towards you all for some input.. I use my car as my daily driver and listen to my music loud all the time.. The car it is in is a 1996 Grand AM 4 door.

I think they are more like 350 watts RMS and 700 peak these subs sound good in a sealed box bandpass boxes sound crappy imo.

EDIT I think around 1 cubic foot for sq and about 1/2 that for spl.

they are very efficient drivers....and especially at there age. 500 would be the max i would give them

the exile 1500.1 is still more then enough for them, even for competitions.

Okay, so I just got off the phone with Exile and the Xi1500.1 is what I am going to go with.

Now to design a box.

I own an exile x2400.1 and have owned x max's...I would not ever put that much power into those drivers...ever...unless you are really just looking for an excuse to get new subs...as the 10s will not last on that amp no matter what you do.

You really want 250 to 300 rms per 10 to really run them. Half the issues you are having are most likely related to the bandpass enclosure....x maxxs are clean os subs with a fairly wide dynamic range...your running them bandpass renders them a one note wonder....bandpass enclosures are about efficiency and output...not sound quality and definitely not range.

Exile makes great mono blocks...I will stand behind their amps based on what I've seen and for the price you won't find a better deal new...If you do end up not running those x maxx's and are looking for another driver or drivers pm me and I will get in your ear about taking those off your hands...I have a friend that I am helping out with his install and could use two more of them...for a total of 6 on a ti 1200.1...yeee haaaa

XMAX's are not the cleanest sounding subs. They're very boomy monsters. The 8" and 10" handle 300 wrms and the 12" and 15" handles 600 wrms. I wouldn't give them more then 400 and 750 watts respectively.

The V1's have a shinny, greasy looking surround while the V2's do not. That's the only way I've been able to tell. I used to have one of each. I now only have a V1 XMAX 10.

I agree with the above posts, in that its the box that's holding the subs back, not power. I disagree that they are boomy sounding subs but thats just my opinion.

Put them in about 0.8 cube sealed box and they will pump. If you run that sort of power into them you will end up blowing them which would be a real pity. I ran 2 XMAX 12s off my ZPA 0.3, effectively giving them about 300w each and it was all they needed. The box was about 1 cube and they sounded great IMO (and I won a heap of SQ comps with em too)
