got my scope and some other goodies!!!!

Post by bogart »

So I responded to a craigslist add today and talked to Dave...a tech who worked for the old pdx 49 before fox took em over and I bought this stuff from him for 150...all manuals and service records and he tested all and showed me a thing or two....heres the link and a few pics.....

http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/ele/1347020218.html

Now I just need to replace my multi meter and the bench is looking a whole lot better!!!!!

So there are two scopes...one is apparently more for tv repair but it will read and show lower audio frequencies too....another signal generator and something I don't know about but I got a bag of probes and the stuff is a bit dusty but is in mint condition!!!! Score!!!!!

I had been holding out and saving to get a pc based scope...but this was a deal and it is reliable so fuck it....old school!!!!! Now I just have to read the novel of a manual and learn how to use the thing!!!!!

Wow.... is all I can say. Those things look like it would be in an old james bond movie and you would see james bond smash them up or something haha. I don't have the patience or probably knowledge to learn that stuff. If I read it, im guessing it would go in my brain and just get confused. hahah. good luck. I hope you learn some stuff so you can do whatever it is you do with that equipment.

repair amplifiers....have been for awhile but my bench has lacked a functional scope till now....they are really easy to use....just have to have an idea of what you are reading. I am just really starting to get serious about it...well, I've been reading up for the last year but I am going back to school for two years to become a certified electrical engineering tech so that I can do this for a living and learn a bit more about theory involved and brush up on the math....

oh good. Because I have two amps both xenons. a x1200.1 and x200.4 that both need repair. I got both the bad batches aka go into protect mode right outta the box and need them repair. I got the 1200.1 from the f and f sale and it goes into protect mode. I bet there is a simple way of fixing it I wish I knew how. Now the amps I bought are going to cost me 200 + 185 for broken shit I received. I'm pretty mad and don't wanna pay that so hopefully you can become an amp genious and help me and other phorum members out :)

I owned all the xenon line up and after chasing problems on them for months I sold all of em!!!! They need to be baked I do beleive as the solder joints were weak...paste rather then rosin core on the key ic components. I was lucky in a way and just bought a bunch of xenon comps at the pg sales...I know how to bake a small board for rework....but the entire amp...You need a more expansive shop then mine my freind.

Contact Eric...he has had some luck but I don't know to what extent. Are you still local....I think we've been through that once but I can't remember what info was relayed

I used to be kind of local. Northern Cali :P but i moved out to florida for college and I can't stand not being able to have my system complete. It was coming together all so well. Then I got greedy and wanted some power hungry amps. AKA xenon. 200rms into 4 just looked so appealing and powerful. It worked and blew my mind for 3 days then stopped. Then I got the x1200.1 because it was a steal! 175 and the f and f sale. BUT of course goes into protection mode.... aksjfasjkfljaksldjfklasjfkljasladf I just want 2 rsdc12s hooked up to 1200rms to hear what that would sound like. along with my rsd65cs components off of about 150rms. Omg I would have a clean sounding stereo. but nooooooo the amp gods hate me.. :(

I shall contact eric and see what up.

looks like a real good start to test bench. I had a buddy that had a similar set up that he was able to get when a tech school closed down.

Right on Bogart. Can't wait to come and do some work on my MS275. Nice to know I have a friend close by that can fix my little babies... considering they are getting older and harder to find.

I've got a solid monster power supply. It doesn't have any amp/volt meters though and that is pretty critical to see the amperage being drawn. MM will tell you the same but when working on amps. It is made for a rv actually and off a 110 it will supply 80 amps alone and with a battery tied in the circuit it will supply a solid 100 amps of current.

So I need a small supply since the 20 burnt while trying to strap two together....dumb dumb dumb dumb

So all I really need now is a good true rms mm and the supply....and a couple hundred to stock common part and a few books I've been looking at. I learned this week that my financial aid will not be done in time to attend this term as I have to file an appeal so I've got another 3 months of waiting and I'll be damned if I don't use it to learn all I can about what I really want to do for a living.

I bought a tutorial online and have learned a great deal about the needed theory and what is really going on in an amp as far as power distribution and oscillation in components and have fixed a few amps so far...my biggest restriction beyond money has been the lack of ability to really test amps without taking a long long time to sort everything out if it isn't an...hey that resistor is toast type of repair....

I enjoy this stuff and love to learn...Eric and other friends locally have been very supportive and understanding with assistance and patience with my errors and need for clarification on stuff I don't get....sometimes I just have to see it to get it and do it to understand....very kinesthetic by nature and have always been the hands on kind of guy....

You guys on the phorum are inspiration for my wanting to be a part of the industry even if it is just repairing amps locally and for you guys on the side....thanks folks

No, but his scope measures up to " 1.25 Jigawatts...." [one of my favorite movies] :hurr:
Nice gear there 8) ; sometimes I wonder why I didn't start using one a long time ago....very usefull.
The same goes for the capacitance-meter.
