K.I.S.S.......keepin' it simple (amp decision)

I think I am going to wheel and deal my way out of my Eclipse 8053 and get a 7200MkII so I can have iPod, USB, and BT functionality as well as all the processing power that my 8053 has.

Then I need to find a 4-6 channel amp to power the whole thing. It would be a bonus to be able to run the front stage active....so 5 or 6 channels is probably my ideal (although the great deal on that ZX475 in the ads is tempting). Crossovers are not important, but it would be nice to have a sub level control.

I do not need huge power for the subs (RFA124 old school subs rated for a meager 150W), and I will be running 2 or 3 of them.....so it could be a 1.33 ohm load....meaning I would need an amp capable of doing roughly 500W at that load and still give some decent power to the front stage.

A small footprint would be optimal for a stealth install in whatever truck I end up with.

Budget is a factor as well. No more than $350 would be the sweet spot.

Any ideas? Have one for sale/trade? Want a nice 8053? :)

You might be able to get a ZX450/500 for that price range.

I have a client who has an almost new Audison LRX6.9 amplifier that I am sure will part with it for about $500

I have a Memphis Belle 16-ST1300d 5 channel I would let go for $350 shipped.
4 x 75W + 1 x 300W @ 4 ohm
4 x 115W + 1 x 600W @ 2 ohm
1 x 1100W @ 1 ohm (subwoofer channel)
2 x 230W @ 4 ohm bridged (main channels)

No I cannot. Need at least 5 channels to run active on a single amp. ;) I am not completely against running multiple amps....just hoping I can stick with 1 for simplicity's sake.

I have a question...it is the one thing that bugs me about the eclipse hu...why would anyone build a unit that has everything...copper chassis and all the frills...and then load it with an onboard power supply....

doesn't make sense to me....I've looked at them and I just can't see an sq hu for that money that hasn't split the noise generating components....

If you go for the ZX475 and not the Ti1200.1 to match it, you are crazy

What a deal on both of those

In all seriousness though, the ZX475 does a great job of running a full system. I've been running my Ti500.4 like that for about three years now and I have no plans of changing it :)

I know Stipud.....I ran my Ti500.4AL like that and was happy. I was thinking maybe of trying a full active setup....or at least having the ability to try it....thus eliminating the 4 ch. option....but really....for the price, and keeping it simple, running the 475 and passive front stage would do the trick nicely....although running another set of speaker wire sounds nicer than having to find a place to stash the passives. :)

Roadster would be nice, but not small at all.....I thought of JL HD900/5....I might be able to get a hook up as we are a JL Home audio dealer....hmmm....might be worth a shot....its a nice amplifier....just pretty spendy.

What do you mean it's not small ??
6.5" x 2" x 23.5" for the same power as a Roadster.
Pretty small in my book.

Width yes, length no, looks small compared to your 30" amp but 23.5" isnt "small"
