im a truck driver and have a lot of time to think. well today while trying to decide what way to go with my mustang i got this idea. 4 rsd 12s IB running off one side of my ms1kta. 2 will be mounted behind the seats and 2 under the rear deck firing though the in the deck. there are a couple possible issues. first maybe cancellation issues with 2 firing into the rear window and the other 2 not. second i wont be sending a whole lot of power to them. i know that typical ib setups wont take the power like a box will but i have never heard one of these subs. there is also maybe one plus i would say the trunk is only about 20-25 cu/ft and i have read that 5 cubes would be perfect for the rsds. what do you guys think?

Two subs IB on the same power will be a lot easier to manage, and I would presume just as loud as well! At most you would have a 3dB gain going from 2 to 4 subs on the same power anyways, which is not a big difference.

Keep in mind installing IB properly takes a LOT more effort than making a box. You have to completely seal off the trunk from the cab, otherwise it doesn't work at all.

im aware that building a box would be easier and it wont have much more output. the big issue i have is the trunk in the mustang has small openings and trying to fit a 3.6cu/ft net box into the trunk will be a problem.

what kind of mustang? I hope its a hatch or 4 12's will be a little tights.

And if you do two 12's, I think you only need 2.34cu/ft for SQ sealed enclosure which is doable. I have a 99 mustang GT and fit two 10s which is a smaller box but could go bigger...

its a 98 gt.

the problem with a mustangs trunk is not the size of the trunk, but the size of the opeing. I built a sing 12" box a little more then 1 cu ft and it barely fit through the opening. For 2 12s we would have needed to build another box and screw them together in the trunk.

Didn't Jason recently build a huge box for a Jetta that he had to cut apart and reassemble INSIDE the trunk so that it would fit? Certainly not ideal (doesn't come out!) but it can be done.

Definitely helps against thieves though.

I thought about IB in a previous install but after talking to alot of experts they said it was a great way to make a set of 12s sound like 8's and alot more trouble then it is worth to get it to work right.

If you are worried about space and weight, I would recomend a single 12 in a sealed box with shitload of clean power to it. Again if you want more, you can just build an identical box and put the two together and with the right amp there would be no problems.

i cant find any single 12s i like. i tried 4 different single 12s this year. i have 2 more 12s to try i plan on trying them tomorrow. they are the rsd and re se12.

From what Ive heard the RSD'S are nice, but the RSDC'S are that much better, more output and a little more accurate.

I agree with the RSDC's. I haven't had 12's in like 3 years, but a recent trade from SUV to sedan has forced me to downsize my subs as well. I picked up a couple of RSDC's and was blown away. I probably would have been good with only one. And the best thing is, they don't need a big box.

RSDC's do like small boxes however. I would guess that the RSDs are better suited for IB, since they love big boxes.
