I was hoping to start installing the sound system in my car soon I have a m44 and a ms 2125 that I was planing on using but after doing some reading I should be thinking about having the caps changed. So here is the question save money and get them reconditioned or buy a different amp?
Any suggestions on a replacement.

well i guess it comes down to how much you like the amps. you would likley MAKE money selling them in their current condition and buying a rsd 600.1 and 500.4...which would still sound great (many would argue not AS great though) but that might not be as retro awesome.

replacing caps isnt terribly spendy either and then you would have great functioning pieces of history.

I bought the m44 new so I am going to keep even if I never use it.
The ms2125 was something I bought on ebay 3 years ago so it means nothing to me. but if I decide on a new amp it will have to do the work of the m44 and the ms2125.
Here is a list of the speakers I have and my plan for them.

-m44 front channels
3 NIB complete sets xenon x6.5

-m44 rear channels
2 8" kicker with dual 2 ohm voice coils

-ms2125 bridged
2 NIB TI12d Elite so far plan is to use 1

Replacing the caps is not all that expensive. I would do it for a minimal fee, especially if you are the original owner and the amp is not in crappy shape.

The MS2125 is a lot more work, but not to crazy.

ttocs They are going in a 2005 civic coupe my daily driver I have 3 sets but 1 is missing tweeters most likely will only use 2 I will use 1 set for the doors and if I am able to get my hands on a set of tweeters 2 sets in the rear panels beside the seats If I had 4 sets I would put 2 sets in the doors.

Eric I did not buy the ms2125 new got it off ebay.
I tested it today in my friends car to see if it still worked and it works but not bridged .There is no sound when it is bridged but sounds great in stereo.
this can not be very serious I am thinking it must be the switch not working.

By bridged, do you mean you flipped the bridged switch on the amp? Try the amp in stereo, but wired bridged. If it works then the switch is bad. If it does not work, you may be wiring it wrong, or the wires internally may be wrong.

Did you use the inside terminals to bridge it?

Also, the caps on that amp should be replaced before they catch on fire (happens a lot on MS amps this age)

Eric I hooked the amp up with 2 speakers the first time then bridged with 1 speaker left + right - the way it shows on the sticker on the bottom panel.
There was no sound with the switch on stereo so I switched it and still nothing.

I have found a replacement for my ms2125 I got a new in box ms2250ta.
I just need to find a replacement for my m44.
I have looked at the newer series of phoenix gold amps but am not too excited ab out them so I was thinking about something from the titanium series but it will have to wait unless I find something that is new in box.
Thanks to everybody for their help and input.

If it played stereo and did not play bridged, then there is something wrong with your wiring. Especially if it did not play with the switch in both positions. You connected the speaker to the ground terminals, not the active or "live" terminals. Try bridging the amp again, but this time use the Left (-) and the Right (+) (the inside terminals, not the outside), and it will work just fine.
