TI NIGHTMARE

well goddamn...I have three of these and I just learned that the last has issues as well as the first two....same issues....left rear channel damaged and the other two have dead x overs....but this one runs...the dead channel still ran as well but the smd cap 113 and the resistors and the wilma in front of it were nice and crispy...went to but this amp in my chrome case and saw it...so the tracing is burnt back and one of the pads are gone totally...not uncommon from my understanding with these smd caps

Anyway I think the simpilest way to repair the damage under these caps is going to be to use an axial lead cap of appropriate value and use it to bypass the pad that isn't there all the way around...tie it onto the components on either side....

I've seen it done with resistors....just have to use 1% dale resistors but pg uses them quite a lot....I have not seen it done with a cap though...so what do you think...it will be a really bitch to rebuild that trace and the landing pad...on two amps to boot....everything else should be cake...maybe not the x overs....havn't started that yet. I am wondering now if the pre amp is in protect with the damaged channel....but it ran and I didn't hear audible ripples but I didn't put it on the scope either which should have told me right away.

crappy pics cause it is a crappy camera...but you should be able to see the pot hole where the cap was and in the pic of the parts I removed the cap that burnt is the tiny little piece of coal. I have had a great deal of problems with the 900.7s over the years and I now have a theory as to why the pre amp always goes....and incidently the left channel sits right under the lip of the pre amp...keep that in mind...

So it is very wet and very humid here....and the x over sits right under the top of the amp....I think that it is condensation dripping down when the amp gets warm and it is shorting the xover and I suspect that this one and the other that drip fell onto the left channel. I don't clip amps or abuse them....I don't destry amps often and these have pissed me off for a long time now...but I am thinking now that they just shouldn't be in a trunk in the weather here.

sound logical to you guys....any other ti 900.7 issues like this out there.....anyhow onto the pics

Yeah...it is cool. I have blue lighted fans for it and too....think I am going to go ahead and order red ones and red ultra bright leds to replace the blue ti lights too........maybe back light the under side of the windows...or die some clear ones with a red tint...

the pics don't do the chrome justice either really....I am about to pc another one and one of my 1200.1 done in black...I am thinking I may pay the extra 50 to have a gloss black done and do the red lighting on them as well for a nice collection set...I just love the one off stuff. That fan sink looks to me like it was done at pg...prefect in all cuts and bends....I doubt they did the chrome but I don't know....chroming is spendy spendy.....

Anyhow thanks Marko

I do find it odd that this thread rose from the dead EXACTLY 2 years since the last post (Nov 14, 2009 - Nov 14, 2011).

Thanks ... It look ten times kooler in person.... But I am not sure how I feal about the crome top..... I have Ben thinking about getting the fan shrouds gold plated and going with an factory top with gold plated screews and fans that light up... I will post pic,s of the install and what the amp turns out ... I may keep the crome cover and do the gold plate theam .... The top cover depends on if I team the amp up with an 1000.2ti or 1200.1ti .. then bolth amps need to match... As one amp crome and one amp stock will just drive me f,en nuts.. what I want to know is who made the fan shroud... As I want another one made for said 1000.2 or 1200.1...

That and it has Ben repaired once buy pg... Bogard had to fix it ... Then some one elce replaced the hole bord...for that has Ben repaired on the sub Chanel.. so at least three times......... I have Ben toying with the idea of buying an 900.7 nib and swapping the fan gard out... this amp seams to run just fine ... But knowing that's what's under the hood is new ...

I thought there was some flaw with those amps that made all of them have a limited life span?

Um no I think they were talking about the ti900.7 . The thing is I have seen a few different issues with the amps... One issue is condensation and the amp laying down.. the watter drops like to drip on the bords and short them out..... Now that I think about it that may be an big issue with other ti amps .... And there preamp bords going up in smoke...
