PG voltage display - should it be on all the time?

I have a PG voltage display - the black, square one with bright blue LED and red numbers that plugs into the Ti amp's display unit socket.
The problem I have though is that it is on all the time, even when the system power is off.
Is this normal?
Should I wire it to ACC or off the remote wiring instead?
Will it drain the battery badly if it's on constantly?
Cheers.

I have mine hooked up to my LE octane and it turns off with the amp but it is going through a RDDP as well...........

which ti amp are you using the RMD with?
the 500.4, 400.2 and 600.2 only have RDDP ports. which is a different piece of gear then just the rmd voltage display
the 1000.2, 1200.1, 800.1 and 900.7 all have BOTH ports for a rddp AND rmd

I plugged it into the ZX475Ti I have last night which has outputs for both RDDP and a separate voltage display. I didn't notice that my 500.4 and 600.2 didn't have an outlet for it actually...
I don't mind it on all the time so long as it doesn't drain my battery to the point of no start overnight.
I'm going to kill (cover) the blue light on it anyway as it's far too bright. The red numbering by itself is quite bearable if I install the thing down in the handbrake well.

it should turn off and on with your amp..... something is not right.

if you are using the RDDP output, then you can make it work but you will need to put two cables together, a cat 5 and the cable you have. Check the fact section for RDDP output and it will tell you the correct wires to use.

Thanks everyone.
Looks like I was using the RDDP output afterall and the connections via the RS CAT 5 connector are using the RDDP earth and constant power.
I'll check out the FAQ when I get time and rewire the connector to use a switched/remote 12v and earth instead.
Cheers

you can use the RDDP output with the tri-colored leds that they use on the R-link as well.

So does this mean that I can "hotwire" a RMD to any 12v power source to get a read out?

You can hotwire an RMD by putting yellow and red to positive. OR wire 1 and 3
green and black to ground. OR wire 2 and 4
yellow is #1 left side of connector

Thank you very much.....
Just to clarify....I noticed that the two positives and two negatives are "tied together" per the wiring diagram in the link....you said I could do one "OR" the other. Does that mean I can only use one set of +/- at a time, or can I use them simultaneously? What if I ran one set to the amp, and the other to say the alternator or battery....hypothetically giving two slightly different readings(voltage loss due to wiring or whatever)....would the RMD average those readings when both used? If so, I would think I would be able to put a dual three way switch(or a series of switches effectively shutting off one set, the other set, or neither set) inline to monitor the alt, the amp, and the two averaged... Thoughts?
Thanks again for the info....

there would be nothing to gain from doing it like you described.

So you are saying there is no voltage drop from the front to the back of a vehicle? I was thinking it could be particularly useful for quick trouble shooting/regular checking if connections start to corrode or the like(I do live in the rust belt). Also, I was considering using an orion mbr battery isolator for a dual battery setup. Traditionally an isolated setup would run the entire system off the isolated battery, but I was thinking of just running the sub amp off the isolated battery and the highs off the main system. In that setup i could monitor each battery as well as the average.... Just tossing around ideas here...
Thanks for the response....

The reason I put OR is if you want to wire it in so you would know that 1 is yellow 3 is red 2 is green 4 is black. because the pinout just shows numbers not colors of the included phone cable. You need to have both pos. and both neg. hooked together.
