Might have an install issue...amp under the seat

Post by rscecil007 »

So I did some test fitting over the holiday when I was putting my truck back together. I sound deadened the entire cab over the holiday, except for the doors. Those are getting done when then system goes in.

Anyway, so I was going to put one of my Ti amps under my front seat, either the 600.2 or 500.4. It seems to fit fine everywhere, EXCEPT the bottom of the seat back that wraps under, touches the amp a bit before it arcs back up under the seat.

It's not much, but it touches. And I have Wet Okole seat covers, which are neoprene. Not ideal I know, but how bad an idea is this?

Will my amp, seat, or truck spontaneously combust if I do this?

But seriously, I might be screwed here if this won't work.

can you bend it out of the way? I have had to "modify" seats slightly in the past to get amps under them... though i would be concerned that there isnt enough room under there for proper cooling...

In my current setup, the seat adjusting cable barely touches the top of my amp under the passenger seat, so I wrapped it in cloth so that it wont scratch the amp... no issues.

Shouldnt be a problem unless the vents are being blocked. Ti's dont get too hot.

Thanks guys. The 500.4 is going under the seat, just driving a set of comps active, so nothing out of the norm load wise.

NewOldStock, yes, I've got that part of the seat out of the way as much as I can. It just folds under and hooks on the frame rails of the bottom cushion. I unhooked the "flap," let's call it, and tried several different places to hook it until I found the spot that yielded the best clearance.

Stipud, the vents are all fine, except for the left side ones (the vertical ones, not the ones at an angle) are sort of blocked a bit by the rear floor mat liner. But I think that will be ok.

Again, not an ideal location, but not much else I can do with it. I suppose a ZX450 would be a bit better, since it's chassis is all around smaller. Maybe I should look into that... :hmm:

Oh, maybe not in practical situation. I was just going by the specs:

Ti - 16"L x 9.8"W x 2.25"H
ZX - 15"L x 9.3"W x 2.00"H

The height thing probably not a big deal like you mention, but overall a slightly smaller footprint. Probably nothing worth selling my Ti and getting a ZX though, as you said.

Funny, i've had them side by side and never noticed a size difference at all. Maybe it's just one of those typical PG manual spec goofups? Or maybe they really are smaller... unfortunately I don't have one anymore to check.

It def could be a spec screw up, not unusual by any means. I've seen some companies in the snowboard industry where the web specs are so far off from the printed catalog specs it's not even funny. It's like "HHEEELLOOO, did you proof this shit????"
