Recommended 18 inch subs

Post by joerg »

I need a nice 18 inch sub for a little installation. I don´t care if it´s oldschool, newschool or noschool at all. My trunk is big enough to fit a Scion in there so space is not the problem. I need a 4 Ohms DVC
I´ll power this sub with my DFAS which is equal to a original MS1k.
What do you guys recommend in this case? All i can think of is the stroker 18D4. But after looking for one for almost a year now and loosing two auctions by a dime im tired of the idea and waiting for the next one to pop up.

If you can find one... Aurasound 18"!! Best sounding 18 you will ever hear. ;)

Used to be $905 at madisound
http://madisound.com/catalog/product_in ... ucts_id=82

I found them in Canada from Solen

I think it is SVC though :(

What, no more Cyclones?

Hear lots of good things about the SSA Xcon...

Mackenzie also loves his AudioQue 18's...

Unfortunately both are only D1 and D2

I am currently having a Treo SSI 18.44 reconed/built if you are interested? It will be good as new once returned... I purchased it with a burnt VC, previous owner drove 2000WRMS to it! Bzzzzt.

It looks awesome and has great reviews, but I am not attached to it. I do not mind shipping overseas with USPS insured.

I will sell for exactly what I have in it once repaired... New it is around 800 from what I understand. I estimate 250-300ish + actual shipping.

... The only reason I offer this up is that there is a Cyclone available, but I need funds before I can get it. LOL

Or I am always game to trade for an older Adire Brahma 15" :)

Good luck,

The clones will be installed in my BMW. I need the 18inches to go into my charger. Best thing ever is that i can hide it in the trunk so noboy will be able to spot it

If you email nick@ficaraudio.com ask him what they would recommend in either a custom built Fi sub or and ascendant audio sub, I think blade ice is the distributor for all of Europe.
I am the distributor for them here in New Zealand, but was dealing with Scott when he still owned RE. I have been playing with the Ascendant subs and they are very very nice sounding, they really will play anything you can throw at them without getting all muddy on faster tracks.

If space is not an issue you mite think about "some" p.a. speakers?
http://forum.speakerplans.com/x1_forum9.html
I always thought a void v18-1000 loaded x1 would be brutal in a car
just throwing an idea out there, after all the original stroker was very close to a pa speaker...

I would say go for the Fi BTL subwoofer 18. This thing is crazy. But I think it is more or less on the SPL side. But it is still a crazy brutal sub.

x2 on the xcon. I have heard if built well in a ported box it can get crazy loud BUT also sound very good musically.

I posted a WTB thread in a german forum that i´m looking for a 18 inch sub prefering the Stroker 18D4 and got 8    Messages of people selling 18th and 15th. No i got no clue if it would be better to go with two 15th subs or one or two 18th

When it comes to music i´m an allrounder. I listen to AC/DC like Michael Jackson going nuts for Tiesto and don´t mind listenig to Joe Nichols as well.

Everything written below is written with loads of confidence, enthusiasm and a little bit beeing mad, mike:

I´m pretty sure u will find out on your own what kind of potential is stuck in 9mm of linear excursion of those FOCALS! There was a reason why i replaced two HCCA15D with the 2 FOCALS back in the day!!! Take the octane LE as wallart and use the MS2250TA for both focals! Fuck the i´m afraid of a more complicated install thing and go for GOLD mike! This might be the last install u´re doing! You got a baby coming and this will take priority in your life!Do it once and do it right!

im sure i would be happy with one
im not a bass head i loved the way my jl10w7 in the HIGHOUTPUT box sounded or my wife's car 12w6v2 in a sealed box if i get that im happy
crap if the focal sounds better and louder than 2 hcca 15 im fucked to much bass...lol

Just a few numbers for u mike! I had the opportunity to change from the Focal subs to the Orions in a matter of minutes in my old install.

I changed nothing else but the subs. I kept the Volume control on the same level used a MS2125 4 Ohms bridged on each sub didn´t change the enclosures nor did i adjust any of the gains in my car. I even parked the car in the shadow while changing the subs to avoid heating the car up.

First measurment taken with the 2 Orions in two seperate 50l sealed enclosures got me 142.6dB@46Hz

Second measurement with the 2 Focals with the same setup exactly 10minutes later got me 146.4dB@46Hz

I´m not saying that the Orions can´t play louder! They sure will if u hand them 1,5kW each! I´m just pointing out that the Focals get more out of less! And for sure they sound nicer than the Orions!

You liked the sound of your wife.....IN A BOX?! :naughty: Thats a horrible thing to say.... mind you some of them would sound better in a box with a muzzle on too
On a seriouse note has anyone used the oldskool M&M Godfathers? Someone back in the day had 2 18's running off the largest 2 channel Rodek(early 90's when Rodek kicked ass) and the fucken pounded, and where very clean too.

I´m torn into two directions here again! I got a few strokers lined up

Two 15D2
Two 18D2
One 18D4

So would it be better to use the two 15D2´s and run each of them of one side of my MS1000 (DFAS) or take the 18D2´s and look forever for a proper comp system to keep up with those or take the 18D4 and run each voicecoil of one side of the DFAS?
