Invertors - which make & model

I was just looking at Invertors, to convert my home socket to DC 12v. I was going to just use a 12v battery, but some invertors seem quite cheap.
Maplins have a Black & Decker 750w model for £39.
Is this any good? Go on, tell me it's crap and I need to spend a small fortune...
Makes & models suggestions please

Are you on 110V or 220V?

This might, I stress MIGHT meet your needs, and is very cheap...

It is a bit low on current, but would power on most amps and allow them to play some music.

Ok thanks. I just did a search on UK ebay and found a similar new model. More expensive, but less shipping of course...

That last one looks good to me. It is very nice to be able to use different output voltages for testing things.

I also found some Modelling ones, with variable output voltage. These look the best so far, as they're compact, good looking, reasonable value and should have enough amps...

I ended up getting a battery charger that can also be switched to power supply, the current isn't variable but the voltage can go from about 6 up to 18v and 10A continuous
