pictures of begining stages ...battery in camera ran dead, and havent gotten pics off phone nor any more of where i am now...but seems/feels like good starting point.

Instead of using my traditional/typical 40/80 black beauty
I wanted a polished look to the sink that would be exposed.
so after lil research and stuff, i learned/heard that the glass bead on aluminum will result in a really polished look
So i picked up 80Grit Glass bead and hjit it with that....have alook-
in person it is even more attractive.

Love to hit an entire sink with the glass bead and just lay a clear coat over it. Think that would look nice- with doing the same to the steel end plates- even on steel it gives/nets a polished AL look- not so much aluminum- but a polished look nonetheless.

just a heat sink, stripped and bead blasted
80G glass bead, which nets a look of/like polished aluminum...but all it is is bead blasted aluminum...imagine if i went with like 120Grit glass bead- whew! even more so... BUT this is a great look- i wanna do one like this and throw a clear over it and see then how it looks- someday soon...
have other work/jobs that need doing first and sux w/ a full time job...just spoke to boss man today and given things are slow at work- i offered to reduce hours or days so i would/could have more time at working at my shop and building it up... said he'd think about it

Nice; I use the glass-bead machine almost every day at work, and am sometimes surprised how nice things look after treatment.
Remember though to clean the screw-holes very good, glassbeads tend to clogg up the hole[s] if there is any grease/ heatpaste or whatever in there and you'll never get those screws in completely.
Also the surface is very "open" ; making it hard to clean after something has come on to it.... coating is a good idea actually IMO.

Unpolished aluminium cooles better.

My work has a baking soda blaster on the way, I wonder what that would look like. You can blast with so many different things.

Its looks good tho, I would like to see what the 120 grit glass beads would do.

^^^ yeah and of course this is NOT polished aluminum, nor is it suppose to replace polishing...but simply gives you that look or close to that look - using sand-blast...

yeah also curious what the 120 would look like.

I had/have considered getting soda blaster too for shop...BUT just not quite yet.

BUT FWIW, just being done in sandblaster- it looks great! took about 45 minutes, and had to be dipped twice in the stripper- but finally got it out and looked amazing-

Hey Matt; what are you using for desolving the old powdercoating?
Over here it's a pain to find someone who even got a clue how to get the old stuff off the sinks.
If you've got a name of the stuff [no brand, but chemical name] I'd be able to find some local; they all want to sell me normal paintstripper....
Once I sandblasted the outside of a MS2125 sink; took me hours!

How bad is that stuff to work with? What are the disposal requirements?

BUT it will evaporate before it is dead/inactive and not usable anymore...
stuff lasts for ever providing it doesnt evaporate.

put it this way - i last bought a 5 gallon jug, put in tank 2 months ago, i now have 3 gallons (aprx) left.

the thing to do - which i almost never do, is to put it back in jug and seal it up whence you know youre done with using it for a lil while- keep it from evaporating... but i find that i use it every day or thereabouts, and just keep it in tak, with a ply wood on for cover.

i have to say that there was/is some heavy flake concentration...BUT it was like the only way i could get it in between the fins. Had to lay it on thick...Good thing about that is that even from 5-10' away, it still sparkles and twinkles at you- i will bring camera to shop and show you (hopefully) what i mean... I mean it is NOT OEM OEM franked.... AS it is difficult to dupe someones else's work from 17 years ago- 1) it was different time, and perhaps powder back 17 years ago might had been compiled from inferior technology (i dunno just guessing), 2) that franked stuff now is like 17 years old... SO it is hard to shoot NEW powder and have it look 17 years old... NOW with that said, on flat panels and stuff i have better luck, but with these fins and shit, it is difficult to get coverage in those tight areas, so you have ot lay it on thick, and perhaps the thing to do is to have two hoppers of frank powder one for MS gear, and one for other gear... BUT that is something perhaps i am in process of learning... I learn something everyday... and thats what's kinda cool about this...

IN NO WAY am i claiming that i am a pro, but do like what i see so far- although it was valetines yesterday, i didnt get much love from shop yesterday, but in the evening when i pulled this out of the oven- i felt love again...

Here is a piece (itchy's) bottom plate for his franked 275...
I sand blasted it... and it looked fab- clean and like a blasted part should...

sprayed paint prep on it as i wasnt going to be able to coat right away from this evening...

THEN i get this funny unknown marking on it...
never was there tape on it or anything like that after i stripped it's powder coating off...

Simply stripped it, dried it, blasted it, hit it w/ air, then sprayed th paint prep on it... HUmmmm
